Job summary

The City of Toronto is hiring for Aquatic Employment Swim Instructor - City Wide. This temporary, part-time role involves delivering swim programs across City locations, focusing on water-safety and child development.

You will provide instruction, monitor safety, complete administrative tasks, and participate in meetings and training. Applicants must be at least 15, hold National Lifeguard – Pool, Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor, and CPR C certifications; PHCD training is provided upon offer.

Qualifications

• Minimum 15 years of age.
• Must hold National Lifeguard – Pool certification, Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor and Lifesaving Instructor.
• First Aid and CPR C (SFA with CPR C) as recognized by WSIB.
• PHCD training provided after conditional offer.

Responsibilities

• Ensure required equipment is in place and stored safely.
• Attend and participate in meetings and training sessions.
• Execute emergency procedures and use safety/rescue equipment as needed.
• Comply with Ontario Health Regulations and relevant policies.
• Perform administrative tasks to support programs.
• Maintain pool area cleanliness and perform pool chemistry tasks.
• Deliver swim instruction and evaluate participants’ safety and progress.

The Community Recreation Branch is responsible for the delivery of high-quality, community-based recreation programs and services to the diverse neighbourhoods of Toronto. We provide a variety of programs that promote the social and physical development for people of all ages, with an emphasis on children and youth. Responsibilities

• Ensure required equipment in place and operational; safe storage of equipment after use.


• Attend and participate in meetings and training sessions.


• Execute emergency procedures and uses safety/rescue equipment as necessary.


• Ensure compliance with Ontario Health Regulations and all relevant legislation, policies and procedures outlined in guiding documents and manuals.


• Perform administrative tasks to support programs.


• Perform maintenance/janitorial duties, including but not restricted to, change room/washroom cleaning and disinfecting, pool chemistry tests, pool vacuuming, backwashing, chemical balancing, and pool fouling clean up.


• Ensure principles of Healthy Child Development (HIGH FIVE®) in the planning and delivery of programs.


• Provide instruction, skill evaluation and safety of swim lesson participants.


• Plan, conduct and evaluate swim lessons, focusing on water-safety.


• Responsible to ensure accident prevention, public education, and public relations.

Qualifications

• Minimum 15years of age.


• Current National Lifeguard – Pool certification, Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor and Lifesaving Instructor


• Current Intermediate First Aid and Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation ‘C’ (SFA with CPR C) as recognized by the WSIB


• You possess certification in Parks and Recreation Ontario's Principles of Healthy Child Development (PHCD). This is a mandatory course that will be provided to you at no cost upon obtaining a conditional offer of employment. You will be provided with course dates and details at that time.
