Job summary

Energy Crane Service is seeking a 2nd or 3rd year HD Apprentice Technician to join our service team in Alberta. The role involves crane, truck and trailer maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs with a focus on safety and quality.

You will work in a shop/field environment based in Stony Plain, AB, with occasional travel to other branches. Training opportunities and a supportive, family-run team enhance career growth.

Qualifications

  • Registered Apprentice Heavy Equipment Certification, crane repair focus.
  • 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year apprentices with 1–2 years’ experience.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
  • Possess a Class 5 licence with a clean driver’s abstract.
  • Previous field experience is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain cranes, trucks and trailers including fluid checks, lubrication and inspections.
  • Troubleshoot, inspect, and diagnose cranes and transport equipment.
  • Order parts and follow up to ensure timely service completion.
  • Read and interpret hydraulic and electrical schematics.
  • Upload and address sensor software.
  • Assemble and disassemble repairs in prescribed sequences.
  • Mentor apprentices and collaborate with other technicians.

Job description

Energy Crane Service is on the lookout for a 2nd or 3rd year HD Apprentice Technician! We need a dynamic, motivated collaborator who can manage essential duties professionally and promptly. Join our service team to ensure safe, effective, organized, and professional crane/equipment maintenance, repair, and performance.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Experience with tractor, trailer and mobile crane equipment preferred.
  • Take responsibility for all aspects of assigned tasks, including servicing cranes, trucks and trailers (fluid checks, sample pulling, oil and filter checks, lubrication, and greasing).
  • Engage proactively with operators to identify equipment faults accurately.
  • Troubleshoot, inspect, and diagnose cranes and transport equipment, resolving moderate to complex issues.
  • Order necessary parts accurately and follow up diligently to ensure timely service completion.
  • Collaborate with other technicians and mentor apprentices.
  • Perform daily vehicle checks and maintain CVOR logbooks.
  • Conduct hydraulic maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting.
  • Conduct electrical maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting.
  • Read and interpret hydraulic and electrical schematics.
  • Perform data bus troubleshooting.
  • Upload and address software (sensors).
  • Assemble and disassemble repairs in the correct prescribed sequences.
  • Possess knowledge of Liebherr (LTM, LTR, LR, LG), Groves (GMK, RT), Tadano (RT/AT) cranes is a asset.
  • Advise operators on the maintenance or repairs of their assigned equipment (engines, electrical system, and hydraulic and pneumatic systems).
  • Manage basic administrative duties such as maintenance reports and entering major repairs.
  • Although primarily based in Stony Plain, Alberta (shop/field environment), occasional travel to other branch locations would sometimes be required.

Education/Training/Desired Skills
  • Registered Apprentice Heavy Equipment Certification interest in the crane repair industry.
  • Consideration of 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year apprentices with a minimum of 1-2 years’ experience.
  • Previous field experience is an asset but not required.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to maneuver around cranes and heavy equipment safely.
  • Ability or experience to perform commercial vehicle inspections supervised is an asset.
  • Possess a class 5 license with a clean driver’s abstract.
