Job summary

Rising Edge Group in Calgary is seeking a PSE/Electrician Apprentice to install and maintain low and high voltage equipment in a substation. You will gain hands-on experience with ground grids, structural steel erection, and the repair and assembly of power system equipment.

Under supervision you will assist with installation, troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of high voltage transformers and related equipment, while adhering to safety standards and pre-employment checks.

Qualifications

  • Inducted into Electrical or PSE trade.
  • Knowledge of the Alberta Electrical Utility Code and OH&S rules relevant to the PSE/Electrician role.
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows and Office; computer-based test equipment would be an asset.
  • Experience operating construction equipment such as skid steer, mini hoe, manlifts, and zoom booms is a strong asset.
  • Must meet pre-access Drug & Alcohol testing requirements.
  • Must be able to work comfortably at heights.

  • Perform preventive maintenance and routine inspections.

What You'll Do

Reporting to theJourneypersonPSE/Electrician, the role of PSE/Electrician Apprentice is toinstall new andmaintainlow and high voltage equipment in a substation.Under this role the PSE/Electrician Apprentice will gain hands-on experience with the installation of ground grids, structural steel’s erection and the repair and assembly of power system equipment.The PSE/Electrician Apprentice is responsible toassistwith theinstallation, troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of high voltage transformers and all other related equipment ona substation.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities include, but may not be limited to:

  • Assistin theday to dayactivities involved with substation construction
  • Work with high voltage equipment such as circuit breakers, transformers, and switches, voltage regulators, capacitor banks, P&C (protection and control)equipmentand SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition systems) systems, human machine interfaces (HMI)and remote terminal units (RTUs)
  • Install time sensitive network and power cabling, including connection,locationand documentation of all circuits, asrequired
  • Perform preventive equipment maintenance; scheduled, unscheduled and emergency requests
  • Perform maintenance, predictiveinspectionsand testing on substation equipment
  • Develop work scopes, draftproceduresand perform routine repairs
  • Comply,at all times, with Rising Edge Technologies operating and maintenance safe work practices,proceduresand standards
  • Develop andmaintaintest and maintenance reports while working under Journey PSE/Electrician
  • Work with Journeyman PSE/Electrician to install ground grids, power system equipment’sassemblyand erection of structural steel
Additional Information

This position isdesignatedas safety-sensitive making employment contingent upon the successful completion of pre-employment drug and alcohol testing, as well as criminal and general backgroundchecks.

Schedule
  • Schedule rotations range from 4 days on / 3 days off, 8 days on / 6 days off, 14 days on / 7 days off, etc.
  • Standard workdays are 10 hours (7:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.)
  • Overtime paid at time and a half after 10 hours per day and 40 hours per week
  • Out-of-town work includes either all-inclusive camp accommodations or LOA and individual accommodations (project dependent)
What We Are Looking For
  • Indentured into Electrical or PSE trade
  • Have knowledge of the Alberta Electrical Utility Code (A.E.U.C Safety Codes Act) and Occupational Health and Safety rules as theyrelate to the PSE/Electrician role
  • Have a valid Alberta Provincial Class 5 driver's license with an acceptable driving record
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows, Office andcomputer basedtest equipmentwould be an asset
  • Previous experience operating construction equipment such as skid steer, mini hoe, manlifts, and zoom booms considered a strong asset.
  • Must meet pre-access Drug & Alcohol testing requirements
  • Must be able to work comfortably at heights
