Job Description

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a 3rd or 4th year Apprentice Electrician to join our team. The Apprentice Electrician will support the inspection, installation, maintenance, testing, and repair of electrical components and systems at the IG Machine & Fibers Ltd. Ashcroft granules production facility. Working under the direction of Journeyperson Electricians and the Electrical Supervisor, the Apprentice will assist in troubleshooting electrical and control systems, participate in planned maintenance activities, and contribute to continuous improvement projects throughout the plant.

This role requires a strong commitment to safety, learning, and teamwork in a fast-paced industrial environment. The Apprentice Electrician will be expected to follow all workplace procedures, including those related to hazardous environments, lockout/tagout, and electrical codes. This position is part of the IAMAW Lodge 692 (Union), and the successful candidate will be required to join and follow the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

When you join us, you will be:
  • Assist with installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting electrical distribution and control equipment
  • Support work involving computers, VFDs, PLCs, and field instrumentation
  • Help organize tools, parts, and work areas; assist with maintaining records of electrical modifications (e.g., red-line drawings)
  • Follow all safety rules and policies, including LOTO and Life-Critical procedures
  • Participate in routine preventative maintenance inspections and calibration activities
  • Assist in performing repairs during scheduled and unscheduled maintenance
  • Contribute to diagnosing electrical, control, and instrumentation issues using logical troubleshooting methods
  • Help interpret electrical drawings, schematics, manufacturer documentation, and the Canadian Electrical Code
  • Complete work documentation using electronic work order and maintenance software
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives, including maintaining tidy, organized, and safe work areas as part of a 5S program
  • Work collaboratively with other trades and maintenance personnel
  • Perform physically demanding tasks in a 24/7 industrial environment
Our ideal candidate:
  • Must be a registered 3rd or 4th year Apprentice Electrician
  • Strong interest in industrial electrical work and learning advanced control systems
  • Basic understanding of electrical theory, circuits, and safety practices
  • Familiarity with electrical tools, test equipment, and safe work procedures
  • Ability to read and interpret basic drawings and diagrams (training provided for more advanced schematics)
  • Willingness to learn about PLCs, VFDs, instrumentation, and industrial automation
  • Comfortable using (or learning) computer-based maintenance systems
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team and follow direction from Journeypersons and supervisors
  • Ability to manage time effectively and handle changing priorities
  • Physically capable of working in a demanding industrial environment and available for shift work
  • Commitment to safety in all tasks, big or small
Work Schedule

The hours of work will be primarily Wednesday through Saturday (40 hours).
