Rising Edge Group is seeking an Electrical Apprentice to support installation and maintenance of low- and high-voltage equipment in substations across British Columbia. You will gain hands-on experience with grounding grids, structural steel, and power system equipment, under the guidance of a Journeyperson Electrician.

The role requires willingness to travel within BC, a valid Class 5 license, and adherence to safety standards.

Qualifications

  • Registered Electrical Apprentice with preference for Industrial Electrician stream.
  • Strong knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) with BC Amendments and Safety regulations.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License with clean driving record.
  • Experience with test equipment and Microsoft Windows/Office considered an asset.
  • Ability to work at heights and travel within British Columbia.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with day-to-day substation construction activities.
  • Work with high voltage equipment including circuit breakers, transformers, switches, voltage regulators, and related SCADA/HMI/RTU systems.
  • Install and document circuits and cabling, including location and documentation of all circuits.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, scheduled and emergency inspections, and testing on substation equipment.
  • Develop work scopes, draft procedures, and perform routine repairs.
  • Comply with Rising Edge Group safety practices, procedures, and standards.
  • Document maintenance reports and assist Journeyperson Electrician with ground grid installation and structural steel erection.

What You’ll Do

Reporting to the Journeyperson Electrician, the Electrical Apprentice is responsible for assisting with the installation and maintenance of low- and high-voltage equipment within electrical substations. In this role, the Electrical Apprentice will gain hands‑on experience in the installation of grounding grids, structural steel erection, and the assembly and repair of power system equipment. The Electrical Apprentice will assist with the installation, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of high-voltage transformers and other related substation equipment.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities include, but may not be limited to:

  • Assistin theday-to-dayactivities involved with substation construction
  • Work with high voltage equipment such as circuit breakers, transformers, and switches, voltage regulators, capacitor banks, P&C (protection and control)equipmentand SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition systems) systems, human machine interfaces (HMI)and remote terminal units (RTUs)
  • Install time sensitive network and power cabling, including connection,locationand documentation of all circuits, asrequired
  • Perform preventive equipment maintenance; scheduled, unscheduled and emergency requests
  • Perform maintenance, predictiveinspectionsand testing on substation equipment
  • Develop work scopes, draftproceduresand perform routine repairs
  • Comply,at all times, with Rising Edge Group operating and maintenance safe work practices,proceduresand standards
  • Develop andmaintaintest and maintenance reports while working under a Journeyperson Electrician
  • Work with Journeyperson Electrician to install ground grids, power system equipment’sassemblyand erection of structural steel
Additional Information
  • This position supports projects throughout British Columbia and will require travel within the province.
  • This position isdesignatedas safety-sensitive making employment contingent upon the successful completion of pre-employment drug and alcohol testing, as well as criminal and general background checks.
Schedule & Compensation
  • Schedule rotations range from 4 days on / 3 days offor8 days on / 6 days off, etc.
  • Standard workdays are 10 hours (7:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.)
  • Overtime compensation will be provided in accordance with the British Columbia Employment Standards Act and/or applicable project agreements.
  • Out-of-town work includes either all-inclusive camp accommodations or LOA and individual accommodations (project dependent)
  • A reasonable estimate of the base pay range for this role is$24.50- $41.70CADat the time of this posting. Individual compensation within the range isdeterminedbased on apprentice level, job-related skills, relevant experience,educationand training.
What We’re Looking For
  • Registered Electrical Apprentice (Construction or Industrial Electrician), with preference given to Industrial Electrician stream.
  • Have thorough knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) with BC Amendments, Technical Safety BC requirements, and WorkSafeBC occupational health and safety regulations as they relate to electrical and utility work
  • Have a calid Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent, with an acceptable driving record
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows, Office andcomputer-basedtest equipmentwould be an asset
  • Must be able to work comfortably at heights
  • Ability and willingness to work out of town
  • Able to travel including travelling to remote sites.
  • Able to work in adverse weather conditions.
