Job summary

Zebra Technologies Canada, ULC is seeking an experienced engineer to develop, validate, test, and integrate software and hardware products. The role involves technical analyses, planning, and design work under senior guidance, addressing performance challenges in specific application scenarios, and collaborating with sales, engineering, and product management to validate fixes in future releases.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical engineering or related field is required.
  • 5+ years of experience with fixed industrial scanning and/or machine vision solutions.
  • Hands-on electrical engineering experience including working with schematics, wiring, hand tools; knowledge of manufacturing and/or logistics processes is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as experienced vision technical resource and initial escalation point for internal and external stakeholder teams.
  • Address key challenges related to performance of products and solutions in specific application scenarios.
  • Evaluate product performance and usability to identify core issues and improve fixes.
  • Collaborate with sales, engineering, and product management to communicate resolutions and validate releases.
  • Provide analysis on how products/solutions meet customer/partner requirements and compare to competitors.
  • Assist in planning and analysis of strategic customer projects to maximize value and ensure deployment success.
  • Help manage and maintain company vision labs and remote testing infrastructure for rapid response to challenges.
  • Represent product management as a technical customer contact and assist with deployments under guidance.

What We’re Looking For

This role leverages engineering skills, as well as industry and field experience, to ensure that the organization’s products and solutions reflect the highest standards of performance, meeting, or exceeding market requirements. This person helps develop, validate, test, and integrate software and hardware products in the pursuit of cost-effective and market-ready solutions to customer challenges. Guided by more senior colleagues, this person contributes to technical analyses, planning, and design efforts that may identify products/solutions for roadmap consideration.

Work is accomplished with some direction from the manager or senior colleagues.

  • Serve as experienced vision technical resource and initial escalation point for internal and external stakeholder teams
  • Address key challenges related to the performance of our organization’s products and solutions in specific application scenarios.
  • Evaluate product performance and usability challenges in order to identify the core issue and eliminate the problem
  • Collaborate with sales, engineering, and product management teams to communicate resolution and ensure fixes are validated and become available in a future release
  • Provide analysis and input on how products/solutions can best meet or exceed customer/partner business requirements, as well as on how they perform/compared to competitive options
  • Assist in the planning and analysis of strategic customer projects to ensure that they are effectively executed. Ensure appropriate Zebra products/features are incorporated in order to maximize customer benefit and business value.
  • Help manage and maintain company vision labs, as well as remote testing infrastructure, in order to ensure the ability to respond to product/solution challenges and opportunities rapidly and effectively.
  • Represent the product management organization as a technical customer/partner contact; often assist with application deployments with the guidance of more senior colleagues.
  • May be asked to engage with product management colleagues to communicate market needs and inform and influence some aspects of the product portfolio and roadmap.
  • Contributes to the development of technical training
  • Develops and documents solution deployment processes as needed and communicates to stakeholders
  • Designs/architects system demonstrations to ensure that products/solutions are represented in a highly professional and effective manner at internal and external events.
  • For high priority opportunities, may be asked to assist sales team/partners with deployment and/or testing on site at customer location.
  • Provides moderate Tier 3 technical support for partners/customers, escalating more complex challenges to senior colleagues.
Job Requirements
  • Minimum Education: o Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical engineering or in a related field is required
  • Minimum Work Experience (years): o 5+ years of experience working with fixed industrial scanning and/or machine vision solutions and commensurate knowledge of technology, products, and marketplace
  • Key Skills and Competencies: o Hands-on electrical engineering experience including working with schematics, wiring, hand tools, etc. o Hands-on experience with machine vision, computer vision, or image processing including setting up cameras, lensing, lighting, filters, focal lengths, etc. o Knowledge of manufacturing and/or logistics processes and environments a plus
  • Licenses/Certifications, special qualifications: o Experience with Windows OS’s such as Win7/Win10 o Experience with Linux OS and common Linux toolsets and scripting languages o General understanding of mechanical, electrical, and industrial automation systems o Certified Vision Professional – Basic a plus

Pay Range: $101,040.00 - $151,040.00

Annual Incentive Compensation: In addition to base pay, Zebra offers this role the opportunity to earn a performance-based annual cash incentive, at a target equal to 12% of base pay, in accordance with the terms of the applicable incentive plan.
