Draganfly is on the lookout for a creative and hands‑on Applications Engineer to join our innovative product design team. If you're excited by the idea of building cutting‑edge drone technology from the ground up this is your chance to make a real impact.

In this role you'll be at the heart of our product development process—designing, testing and refining embedded systems that power our next‑generation unmanned aerial platforms. From initial concept to full‑scale production you'll be involved in every step working alongside a passionate team of engineers and innovators.

This role is available at either our Saskatoon or Burnaby facilities. The salary range for this position is between $75,000 and $120,000 per year depending on experience and qualifications.

Responsibilities
  • Custom payload accessory and software development and integration
  • Development of customer-facing documentation
  • Rapid turn integration of custom payloads
  • Firmware Development
  • Developing and writing code for embedded devices using programming languages such as C and C
  • Development of code for embedded Linux or RTOS
  • Development of hardware-accelerated video streaming software running on embedded Linux devices
  • Ensuring that the software and hardware are well integrated the device functions as expected and is thoroughly tested
  • Documentation and severity classification of bugs
  • Diagnosing and fixing any bugs that arise
  • Development and implementation of regression test plans
  • Maintaining firmware revision control
  • Ensuring firmware security through implementation of techniques such as secure boot code obfuscation encryption secure coding practices and security testing
  • Mechanical design
  • Some knowledge and experience with mechanical and PCB design is an asset
  • Work with the hardware development team to ensure that the hardware and mechanical design meet the functional requirements for the applications that will run on it.
  • Flight testing of UAS systems
  • Assist manufacturing and customer support with troubleshooting any product issues
  • Work with sales and business development teams to create new product concepts and features
  • Work with production engineering to transition newly released products to manufacturing.
  • Work with production engineering to initiate and approve engineering change orders
  • May require occasional travel for tradeshows demonstrations or site visits.
Qualifications
  • The successful candidate shall have a Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in Electronic CAD software such as Fusion 360 is an asset.
  • Experience with embedded systems and microcontroller programming.
  • Experience with UAS system development and operation.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A minimum of 5 years electronic design experience is required.
Working Conditions

Hands‑on work on the development and fabrication of prototypes is essential. Duties will include a mix office and lab environments. Some remote work is acceptable.
