Solution Architect – Application Management

We are seeking an experienced Solution Architect – Application Management to support our client, a major provincial energy utility, in designing, specifying, and guiding the delivery of enterprise application solutions that underpin critical operations across the organization. This role leads solution design, architectural oversight, and technical governance to ensure that all application-focused initiatives align with business objectives, technology standards, and enterprise architecture principles.

The Solution Architect will work across project teams, operational groups, vendor partners, and enterprise architects to define solution architectures, evaluate options, manage risk, and ensure high-quality implementation. This includes producing logical architecture models, solution specifications, and technical guidance throughout the development, testing, and deployment lifecycle.

LOCATION & WORK HOURS

  • Start Date: January 1, 2026
  • End Date: January 31, 2027
  • Schedule: Monday–Friday, standard business hours
  • Availability: Occasional after-hours or weekend work may be required for deployment or cutover activities

THE ROLE – Solution Architect (Application Management)
In this role, you will be responsible for solution architecture, logical design, system specification, and architectural governance for application-related projects. You will collaborate with stakeholders to analyze requirements, evaluate solution alternatives, and translate them into detailed technical designs and integration strategies.

Key responsibilities include defining end-to-end solution architectures, validating vendor or development team deliverables, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards, and providing technical leadership during implementation, testing, and transition to operations.

MANDATORY EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field
  • 8–12+ years of IT experience, including 5+ years in solution architecture, application architecture, or enterprise architecture
  • Proven experience developing logical architectures, integration designs, and solution specifications
  • Experience guiding projects through the full SDLC (requirements ? design ? build ? test ? release)
  • Strong understanding of multi-tier application architectures, integration patterns, APIs, web services, and cloud/on-prem architectural models
  • Knowledge of security architecture considerations, data architecture concepts, and data modeling
  • Experience evaluating solution options, identifying risks, and recommending mitigation strategies
  • Experience with DevOps, CI/CD, and modern application development practices
  • Strong stakeholder communication and architectural documentation skills

DESIRED CERTIFICATIONS

  • TOGAF, Zachman, or equivalent architecture framework certification
  • Microsoft, Oracle, or other vendor-specific architecture certifications
  • ITIL v4 Foundation
  • Agile/Scrum or SAFe certification
  • Cloud certification (Azure or AWS)

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • Experience within utilities, energy, or public-sector enterprise environments
  • Experience modernizing legacy systems and application portfolios
  • Experience overseeing third-party solution vendors and validating technical deliverables
  • Knowledge of enterprise middleware, API gateways, integration platforms, and messaging technologies
  • Experience producing architecture roadmaps and technology strategies
  • Experience conducting architectural reviews, risk assessments, and technical evaluations
  • Familiarity with NERC/CIP or other utility-sector compliance frameworks (asset)

KEY DELIVERABLES

  • Develop and document solution architectures, logical models, integration diagrams, and system specifications
  • Ensure all solutions comply with enterprise architecture standards, security requirements, and IT governance policies
  • Provide architectural guidance and quality assurance during solution development and testing
  • Evaluate solution alternatives and recommend optimal approaches based on business needs, constraints, and risk
  • Support procurement activities including technical evaluations and vendor assessments
  • Create detailed technical documentation to support implementation and operational transition
  • Collaborate with developers, support teams, and business stakeholders to ensure successful delivery
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, modernization, and application rationalization
  • Conduct architecture reviews and provide recommendations to ensure long‑term sustainability and performance
