Qualifications

• Deep knowledge of AP Microeconomics concepts including scarcity, opportunity cost, supply and demand, and market structures.
• Ability to explain marginal analysis, elasticity, and welfare analysis for AP exams.
• Experience guiding AP-style free-response questions and structured reasoning.

Responsibilities

• Deliver remote 1-on-1 online AP Microeconomics tutoring via the Varsity Tutors platform.

What We Look For In a AP Microeconomics Tutor

• Advanced Subject Mastery: Deep knowledge of basic economic concepts including scarcity and opportunity cost, supply and demand, consumer and producer theory, factor markets, market structures including perfect competition, monopoly, oligopoly, and monopolistic competition, and market failure. Ability to explain marginal analysis, elasticity, and efficiency while preparing students for the AP Microeconomics examination.
• Conceptual Teaching & Problem-Solving: Skilled at teaching marginal cost and revenue analysis, market structure comparison, and welfare analysis for AP Microeconomics. Guides students through calculating consumer and producer surplus, graphing cost curves, analyzing game theory scenarios, and evaluating government intervention effects. Emphasizes graphical representation and connecting microeconomic models to real-world business decisions, regulation, and resource allocation.
• Curriculum Awareness & Adaptive Instruction: Familiar with AP Microeconomics curriculum across six units and common challenges such as drawing accurate cost curve graphs, distinguishing market structures, and applying marginal analysis to free-response questions. Adapts instruction using graph-drawing practice, real-world market examples, and AP-style assessments to support students developing economic reasoning skills for the examination and college economics courses.
• Effective Teaching Methods: Ability to identify concepts students commonly struggle with, explain material using multiple approaches, and adapt instruction to meet individual learning needs and styles.
• Strong communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style.
• Ability to adapt to different learning styles and student needs.
