Job description

We are seeking an Animal Care Technician to join Aspect’s In Vivo team. Reporting to the Scientist, In Vivo, you will play a crucial role in supporting various research programs by providing essential technical support and expertise. This is a great opportunity to apply your animal care skills while contributing to cutting-edge research at Aspect Biosystems.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in experimental preparation, set up, and take down.
  • Conduct scheduled health observations, assessments, supportive care, promptly report any observed animal anomalies and update online data spreadsheets.
  • Perform restraint, handling, dosing (IP, SQ, or IV), and blood sampling.
  • Assist scientists with surgery and other related animal techniques.
  • Perform post-operative care and monitoring.
  • Carry out necropsies and tissue collection, ensuring timely delivery of samples.
  • Maintain accurate records, including animal monitoring sheets, room logs, health reports, cage cards, autoclave logs, and other required documents.
  • Complete study-related duties to maintain proper animal care practices.
  • Manage inventories and facility consumables to support day-to-day operations.
  • Ensure biosecurity controls, including cleaning and sanitizing the animal facility and equipment, as well as environmental monitoring.
  • Follow standard operating procedures, safety measures, and quality assurance standards for the animal facility.

Qualifications

  • Education: Diploma or BSc in a relevant discipline.
  • Required Experience: At least 1 year of experience in an in vivo research or exposure to rodent handling.
  • Ideal Certification: Completion of UBC animal care training and lab rodent course (or willingness to complete training).
  • Comfort with Rodents: Ability to work comfortably with rodents in a research setting (training and support will be provided).

The hiring range for this role is $43,000 - $63,000, annually. Our ranges are based on market data. Offered salaries will be based on a combination of factors including, but not limited to, job-related knowledge, skills, education, and experience. For candidates who exceed role requirements, we are open to exploring above-range offers. Note that base salary is just one part of the overall compensation at Aspect.
