Job summary

BC SPCA in Quesnel, BC is seeking an Animal Care Attendant for on‑call, casual shifts. You will participate in daily animal care duties and ensure adherence to Five Freedoms.

Responsibilities include maintaining kennels, monitoring health, feeding, grooming, and welfare reporting. Must have a high school diploma, valid BC driver's license, strong customer service, and ability to work flexible weekdays, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Class N or 5 BC Drivers’ License and driver’s abstract.
  • Strong customer service orientation with patience, professionalism and attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Team player who builds trust with colleagues, customers and volunteers.
  • Self-motivated with initiative and minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of animals, breeds, characteristics and diseases.
  • Previous kennel or animal care experience is an asset.
  • Physical endurance for demanding duties and heavy lifting.
  • Computer experience: Windows, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Availability to work weekdays, weekends and statutory holidays.

Responsibilities

  • To maintain the entire physical plant in a clean, sanitary, and efficient manner.
  • Keep kennels, runs, and cat cages healthy and well‑maintained.
  • Monitor health using kennel cards, logs and welfare sheets.
  • Feed, water, exercise, and enrich the animals daily.
  • Perform general bathing and grooming of animals.
  • Treat animals with compassion and in line with BC SPCA five freedoms.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
