Job summary

The Ontario SPCA and Humane Society in Ontario is seeking an Animal Care Attendant to enrich the lives of our residents. You will feed, groom, exercise, and monitor health while delivering compassionate care to animals and assisting families who visit our shelter.

This role emphasizes teamwork, adherence to cleanliness standards, and flexible availability including weekends and holidays. Join a charity that values animal welfare, public service, and professional development.

Qualifications

• Experience caring for animals in a shelter or clinical setting is a plus.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with the public.

Responsibilities

• Perform care and enrichment for animals including feeding, exercising, playing, and other activities.
• Maintain a clean, healthy environment with housekeeping, disinfection, laundry, and kennel duties.
• Support animal health by assisting with basic grooming and noting health concerns to staff.
• Maintain client records and communicate issues to supervisors.
• Assist with transfers of animals to veterinary clinics as required.
• Promote the centre’s mission and fundraising efforts through social media and events.

Animal Care Attendant (ACA):

We are seeking an experienced ACA with a love for spending time enriching the lives of the animals within our care. ACAs understand that ensuring a clean, stimulating, and healthy environment is paramount to quality of life for our furry residents. ACAs develop great relationships with our human friends too by supporting client service and administration for a seamless experience at every turn.

A Typical Day

• Performing care and enrichment for our animals including, feeding, exercising, playing and/or other engagement activities
• Ensuring a healthy environment through general housekeeping, disinfection protocols, laundry duties and kennel cleaning
• Supporting animal physical health by performing supervised vaccinations, seeking RVT advice and general bathing and grooming duties
• Maintaining client records, recording information, and notifying a supervisor of any potential health concerns
• Participates in the transfer of animals to vet clinic as required
• Immerse self in the culture and goals of the centre and organization by actively promoting the centre via social media channels and participation in a variety of fundraising initiatives

Setting up For Success!

• Team player
• Ability to lift 18 kg (40lbs) and control 45 kg (100lbs)
• Valid G drivers license with the ability to provide a clear driver’s abstract
• Open availability including weekdays, weekends, and holidays
• Previous clerical training an asset
• Customer service experience an asset
• Certificate or College Diploma in Animal Care or working towards, preferred
