Job summary

The Ontario SPCA and Humane Society is seeking an Animal Care Attendant to care for animals, enrich their environment, and support front-desk tasks at our Renfrew County Animal Centre in Pembroke, ON. The role involves hands-on animal care, record-keeping, and community engagement.

Ideal candidates have a relevant certificate, strong customer service skills, and a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays. Training and development opportunities are available.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with animals in a care setting.
  • Ability to lift up to 18 kg (40 lbs) and assist with heavier loads when needed.
  • Valid G driver's license with a clear driving record.
  • Open availability including weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
  • Clerical training and customer service experience are assets.

Responsibilities

  • Provide animal care and enrichment, including feeding, exercising, and play.
  • Maintain clean, healthy living environments and kennel areas.
  • Assist with vaccinations and general health checks under RVT guidance.
  • Maintain client records and support front-desk tasks for smooth operations.
  • Promote the centre via social media and participate in fundraising initiatives.

Animal Care Attendant (ACA):We are seeking an experienced ACA with a love for spending time enriching the lives of the animals within our care. ACAs understand that ensuring a clean, stimulating, and healthy environment is paramount to quality of life for our furry residents. ACAs develop great relationships with our human friends too by supporting client service and administration for a seamless experience at every turn.

A Typical Day
  • Performing care and enrichment for our animals including, feeding, exercising, playing and/or other engagement activities
  • Ensuring a healthy environment through general housekeeping, disinfection protocols, laundry duties and kennel cleaning
  • Supporting animal physical health by performing supervised vaccinations, seeking RVT advice and general bathing and grooming duties
  • Maintaining client records, recording information, and notifying a supervisor of any potential health concerns
  • Participates in the transfer of animals to vet clinic as required
  • Immerse self in the culture and goals of the centre and organization by actively promoting the centre via social media channels and participation in a variety of fundraising initiatives
Setting up For Success!
  • Team player
  • Ability to lift 18 kg (40lbs) and control 45 kg (100lbs)
  • Valid G drivers license with the ability to provide a clear driver’s abstract
  • Open availability including weekdays, weekends, and holidays
  • Previous clerical training an asset
  • Customer service experience an asset
  • Certificate or College Diploma in Animal Care or working towards, preferred
