Job Summary

The Surgical Services Perioperative Program of Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services (NLHS) invites expressions of interest for a full-time Anesthesiologist at the Health Sciences Center, St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador (HSC) to start full-time June 20, 2026.

The successful candidate will join a group of 22 anesthesiologists at HSC. The Anesthesiologist will function as a key member of the perioperative team, responsible for the provision of anesthetic services to surgical patients. They will have direct involvement in the care of the patient pre- and post‑operatively, assuming responsibility for pre‑admission anesthesia clinics as well as post‑operative pain management. This site runs 14‑16 operating rooms per day with the following surgical specialties; General, Cardiac, Neuro‑Surgery, Plastic, Orthopedic, Gynecology / Gyne‑ONC, Cath Lab, Neuro‑Interventional Radiology, Ophthalmology, and Urology. Additionally, our anesthesiologists provide support to ECT, Endo‑vascular Treatment of Stroke and the Acute Pain Services. On‑call coverage is required with an average of 2 on‑call per month. Additionally, 2nd call coverage for APS, EVT, 2nd team, etc is required and averages 1‑2 times per month.

HSC is a teaching hospital affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at Memorial University. This provides the candidate with the opportunity to engage in educational experiences with both anesthesia residents and undergraduate medical students.

Required Qualifications
  • Medical Degree.
  • Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Certificationin Anesthesiology (or pending certification).
  • The successful candidate must demonstrate recent experience and expertise in the provision of anesthesia for the above listed surgical services, especially in the areas of Cardiac, Neuro‑Surgery, Cath‑Lab, Neuro‑Interventional Radiology, and Urology. Priority will be given to candidate(s) with recent clinical experience at the HSC site.
  • Sub speciality fellowship training if any will be considered an asset.

Deemed eligible for licensure to practice by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador.
