Island Health in Nanaimo, BC, is seeking Anesthesiologists for permanent, full-time or part-time positions at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (NRGH). Join a group of 20 FRCP(C) anesthesiologists providing 24/7 coverage in a 10-OR main facility and 2 ambulatory ORs nearby.

ACLS and PALS are required; ATLS is desirable. Fellowship in Regional or Obstetrical Anesthesia and teaching/simulation interest are advantageous. Start date is as soon as possible in a welcoming community on Vancouver Island.

Role and Facility Information

Are you an Anesthesiologist interested in living and practicing in one of Canada's most beautiful and warmest regions? Island Health welcomes Anesthesiologists to apply for permanent, full-time or part-time opportunities. The Department of Anesthesia at NRGH is seeking Anesthesiologists to join their close knit and collegial group of 20 FRCP(C) anesthesiologists. Nanaimo Regional General Hospital (NRGH) is a 356 acute care bed regional hospital providing services to a population of 160,000 and a secondary referral population of over 350,000. NRGH has a total of 10 ORs in the main operating room and 2 ambulatory ORs in our surgical center across the street. We provide 24/7 coverage for the main OR and the labour and delivery suite with a primary anesthesiologist (“home call”) and secondary anesthesiologist (for “life or limb” emergencies only) on-call. Surgical specialties at NRGH include: General Surgery, Orthopedics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Plastic Surgery, Urology, Otolaryngology, Oral-Maxillofacial Surgery, Pediatric Dentistry, and Ophthalmology. We are supported in our day to day clinical work by a dedicated group of six Anesthesia Assistants.

The Vancouver Island Health Authority provides comprehensive and progressive healthcare services to over 750,000 residents of Vancouver Island.

Current ACLS, PALS required. ATLS certification desirable. Additional consideration may be given to candidates with fellowship training in Regional Anesthesia, Obstetrical Anesthesia, or particular interest and experience in teaching and simulation.
