Job summary

Brant Community Healthcare System (BCHS) in Brantford and Paris, Ontario, seeks an Anesthesia Assistant (AA) who is a Registered Respiratory Therapist or an RN with a CSRT-certified Clinical Anesthesia Assistant credential. The AA collaborates with the Anesthesiologist to deliver safe anesthesia care to surgical patients.

They monitor patients pre-, intra-, and post-operatively, support airway management, and ensure patient safety and comfort under supervision.

Qualifications

  • Advanced Diploma in Respiratory Therapy or an Undergraduate degree in Nursing with Certified Clinical Anesthesia Assistant certification.
  • Registered with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario or the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the patient's care during induction by administering prescribed anesthetic agents as directed and monitored.
  • Provide diagnostic data to the Anesthesiologist or Surgeon, including blood gases, pulse oximetry, transcutaneous monitoring, and end tidal CO2.
  • Support pre-operative assessments and prepare the patient for surgery, including lines and tubes placement.
  • Ensure proper performance and maintenance of anesthesia-related equipment.
  • Assist and monitor patients in an anesthesia block room.
