Job summary

The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) in Toronto is seeking a qualified Anesthesia Assistant to support pediatric patients undergoing general, regional, or procedural sedation. You will provide hands‑on anesthesia under anesthesiologist supervision within a collaborative practice model.

Candidates must complete an accredited Anesthesia Assistant program, hold CCAA credentials, and be in good standing with CRTO or CNO.

We are looking for a qualified Anesthesia Assistant to join our team!


As an Anesthesia Assistant you will participate in the care of pediatric patients undergoing general, regional or procedural sedation under the direct supervision and/or immediate availability of the Anesthesiologist. Within a collaborative practice agreement, you provide hands‑on anesthesia and procedural sedation care for pediatric patients across the pre-, intra-, and immediate postoperative periods, practicing with a high degree of clinical autonomy alongside anesthesiologists.


As an Anesthesia Assistant, you are authorized to practice within your respective scope of practice as a regulated health professional (RN or RT) and may perform duties beyond your scope of practice under medical directives. You provide high-quality anesthesia and procedural sedation care for pediatric patients in the OR, Sedation Unit, and satellite locations such as Diagnostic Imaging and Hematology/Oncology procedure areas, collaborating closely with anesthesiologists. You are a key provider of moderate to deep sedation for procedures across the hospital.

Here’s What You’ll Get To Do


  • Assess patients clinical status, anticipate perianesthesia issues, and respond promptly to changes in condition

  • Actively participate within the interdisciplinary health care team as a reflective practitioner

  • Utilize evidence‑based practice

  • Independently assess, plan, and deliver anesthesia and procedural sedation care while collaborating closely with anesthesiologists

  • Provide safe, competent and ethical anesthesia care

  • Maintain clinical competence and knowledge base through continued education and lifelong learning


Here’s What You’ll Need


  • Successful completion of an accredited Anesthesia Assistant program

  • Certified Clinical Anesthesia Assistant (CCAA) credentials

  • A member in good standing with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario (CRTO) or the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)

  • Minimum of 2 years of recent critical care experience

  • Previous Anesthesia Assistant or peri‑operative experience preferred

  • Excellent clinical, technical, and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team

  • A commitment to understanding and aiding in the pursuit of equity, diversity & inclusion
