Job summary

RBC is seeking a detail‑oriented Regulatory Reporting Specialist in Toronto to support daily trade reporting, reconcile data and investigate regulatory rejections. You will work across Front Office, Compliance, IT and Operations to ensure accurate reporting under CFTC, CSA, SEC and other regimes.

A 1+ year background in high‑risk ops and a finance/business degree are required. You will contribute to process improvements, document controls, and drive timely issue resolution while maintaining

Qualifications

  • 1+ years of operational experience in a high risk, demanding environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Math, or Engineering.
  • Solid understanding of procedures and operational controls related to systems/work flows.
  • Fundamentals of Capital Markets trading and transaction lifecycle.
  • Working knowledge of OTC Derivative products and regulatory regimes (CFTC, CSA, SEC, EMIR, FCA).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication; ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Experience with front/middle/back office applications (Bloomberg, Sophis, TradeWeb, MarkitWire, Murex, DTCC).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Visio).

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily, weekly and monthly trade reporting reconciliations.
  • Investigate and determine root causes of regulatory rejections.
  • Monitor daily Global Trade Repository exceptions and issue management.
  • Ensure portfolio reconciliations are investigated with counterparties and resolved timely.
  • Document business processes, controls and procedures under supervision.
  • Ensure daily tasks and controls align with departmental procedures.
  • Develop product/market knowledge to reduce operational risk.
  • Investigate processing issues and propose course of action, assist in implementing changes.
  • Collaborate with Front Office, Compliance, IT and other teams to resolve reporting exceptions.
  • Escalate issues to Senior Management and Compliance when necessary.
  • Support colleagues during busy periods and share workloads.

What is the opportunity?

The CM Canadian Regulatory Services group is responsible for ensuring the ever changing regulatory reporting requirements imposed by various global Regulators for OTC Derivatives are successfully implemented and executed.

This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with the trade reporting regulations including but not limited to CFTC, CSA and SEC for OTC Derivatives trading. The role will involve daily reconciliations, exception monitoring, portfolio reconciliation, investigation, issue management and MI reporting.

What will you do?
  • Perform daily, weekly and monthly trade reporting reconciliations
  • Perform investigations and determine root causes leading to regulatory rejections
  • Perform daily Global Trade Repository daily exception monitoring and issue management
  • Ensure any portfolio reconciliation discrepancies are
  • actively investigated with the counterparties and follow-up
  • on resolution in a timely manner.
  • Contribute and document business processes, controls and procedures, under supervision of the department lead
  • To ensure all daily tasks / controls are completed in line with the departmental procedures.
  • To continue to develop product / market knowledge to ensure daily processes are appropriate to reduce operational risks.
  • To investigate any processing issues and recommend a course of action to the Team Manager. Once approved, assist in the execution of the proposed change.
  • Contribute and document business processes, controls and procedures, under supervision of the department lead
  • To support colleagues during busy periods by sharing workloads as applicable.
  • To adhere to mandatory training requirements and take a proactive approach to suggesting appropriate additional training as required for the role.
  • Work collaboratively with Front Office, Business and Client Services, Compliance, IT, Trading Documentation Team, Project Team and Client Data Management to resolve any regulatory reporting related exceptions
  • Escalate trade reporting and swap surveillance exception issues to Senior Management and Compliance as deemed necessary
  • Achieve and maintain highest levels of customer Service
  • Analyze current state processes to provide suggestions for process re-engineering and technology implementation to improve efficiency and controls.
  • Effectively communicate and build rapport with team members, stakeholders and business partners using a variety of techniques and collaboration from initiation to close.
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have
  1. 1+ years of operational experience in a busy, high risk and demanding operational environment
  2. Bachelor's degree specializing in Business, Finance, Math or Engineering
  3. Solid understanding of procedures and operational controls as they relate to systems and work flows
  4. Detailed understanding of the fundamentals of Capital Markets trading and the transaction lifecycle
  5. Working knowledge of OTC Derivative products
  6. Working knowledge of Regulatory Requirement across various Regimes i.e. CFTC, CSA, SEC, EMIR, FCA and other global derivatives reform regimes
  7. Excellent communication skills - both verbal and written, including presentation skills
  8. Able to manage multiple priorities, work under pressure, learn quickly, and perform new tasks accurately, effectively, and efficiently
  9. Familiarity with front, middle and back office applications (Bloomberg, Sophis, TradeWeb, MarkitWire, Murex, DTCC etc.)
  10. Skillful in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Word, Visio, etc.)
Nice-to-have
  • Detailed understanding of RBC Capital Markets organizational structure (front office sales and trading, middle office, product control, back office operations, regulatory/compliance, etc.)
  • Proficiency in VBA (Visual Basic for Applications) or Python is an asset
