Job summary

St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital is seeking a Finance Analyst to join a fast-paced analytical team. You will analyze financial results, prepare reports and support budgeting while coordinating month- and year-end activities.

The role requires post-secondary education in accounting/finance and at least three years of financial experience, with strong Excel skills and a focus on internal controls.

Qualifications

  • Post-Secondary education in accounting/finance.

  • Self-directed with strong internal controls understanding.
  • Experience budgeting with clinical/operational leaders.
  • Ability to explain operating results and provide financial guidance.

Responsibilities

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

Reporting to the Director of Finance & Health Information, the Finance Analyst will be an integral member of a fast-paced analytical team performing a range of professional accounting activities including analysis and reporting of hospital financial and statistical results.

The incumbent will work autonomously to analyze financial results and work with all levels of the Management Team to interpret and present the financial impact of operational decisions; identify areas of process improvement; utilize benchmarking analysis; provide evidence-based information and support the management team with the achievement of financial results.

The Finance Analyst will co-ordinate and process month and year-end activities; assist in the development and preparation of the annual budget; conduct internal and external audit requirements, while allowing for standardization and efficiency to maintain appropriate internal controls.

WHAT YOU MUST HAVE:
  • Post-Secondary education in Accounting/Finance
  • Minimum of three (3) years of financial/accounting work experience, preferably in a healthcare setting
  • Must be highly self-directed/motivated and able to make decisions
  • Sound understanding of internal controls and financial work processes
  • Experience collaborating with clinical and operational leaders to develop and implement departmental budgets
  • Demonstrated ability to assist non-Financial Leaders in understanding operating results, financial advice and operational guidance and reporting
  • High proficiency using Microsoft Office programs, primarily Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Excellent analytical, mathematical and creative problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated effective communication, interpersonal skills, and organizational skills
  • Logical and efficient, with a keen attention to detail
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks through highly developed time management skills
  • Team player possessing high integrity, confidence and maturity with a proven ability to initiate and develop relationships with partners and other stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis as per the STEGH Attendance Support Policy
  • Demonstrates a fit with STEGH mission, vision, and values
WHAT WE PREFER YOU TO HAVE:
  • Experience, understanding and knowledge of clinical areas within a hospital
  • Experience with MOHLTC/LHIN reporting, MIS Guidelines (MIS Level I & II)
  • Experience with Ontario Health (OH) reporting, OHRS (Ontario Health Reporting Standards)
HOURS:

Monday to Friday, 37.50 hours per week. Occasional evening and weekend work when required to meet deadlines.
