Job summary

CPP Investments is seeking an Analyst in External Portfolio Management (EPM) to contribute to investment analysis, external manager research, portfolio construction and risk management. The role offers broad exposure to hedge fund strategies and co-investment opportunities across public equities, credit and macro assets.

You will perform quantitative and qualitative research, develop analytical tools, prepare investment memos, and support teams across EPM and CMF.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate or advanced degree; graduation in April 2026 or later.
• Understanding of public capital markets; experience with alternative investments is an asset.
• Strong qualitative, analytical and problem-solving skills; eagerness to learn.
• Proficient in MS Office; Python, VBA, Tableau or similar tools is an asset.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; collaborative team player.
• Familiarity with risk and portfolio management platforms; CFA/CAIA is an asset.

The Role

As an Analyst in External Portfolio Management (EPM), you will contribute to investment analysis, external manager research, portfolio construction and risk management across a broad range of hedge fund strategies and co-investment opportunities. Working as a generalist across EPM, you will have opportunities to support both the Funds Selection and Portfolio Construction & Risk teams. Your assignments will evolve with investment priorities and business needs, providing broad exposure to external manager investing, quantitative and qualitative research, portfolio analysis and strategic initiatives.

Accountabilities

Monitor and analyze existing hedge fund investments and the broader EPM portfolio, including performance, risk, exposures and portfolio reviews. Contribute to due diligence on external investment managers, assessing investment strategies, performance, portfolios, teams and organizations. Support the evaluation of co-investment opportunities across public equities, credit, macro and other asset classes. Conduct quantitative and qualitative analysis and research to support investment decisions, portfolio construction, risk management and hedging activities. Develop and enhance analytical tools and processes supporting investment monitoring, portfolio construction and risk analysis. Prepare investment memos, research materials, portfolio reviews and presentations, and contribute to investment and research discussions. Support data, technology, operational and strategic initiatives across EPM and CMF, adapting to evolving investment and business priorities.

Qualifications

An undergraduate or advanced degree, with graduation in April 2026 or later. Understanding of public capital markets; experience with alternative investment strategies is an asset. Strong qualitative, critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills, with an interest in learning and contributing perspectives. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint; experience with Python, VBA, Tableau or similar tools is an asset. Strong interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Familiarity with risk and portfolio management platforms is an asset, particularly for work supporting the Portfolio Construction & Risk team. Interest in pursuing the CFA or CAIA designation is an asset, along with a commitment to CPP Investments’ principles of integrity, partnership and high performance.
