A leading healthcare institution in Nova Scotia is seeking an Anaesthesia Technician to assist in the maintenance and application of anaesthesia equipment. The ideal candidate will have a diploma in engineering and relevant experience in a hospital setting. Responsibilities include troubleshooting equipment, performing preventive maintenance, and supporting anaesthesia care. This role requires strong technical knowledge and teamwork.
The Anaesthesia Technician will be part of the team in the Department of Anaesthesiology. The duties and responsibilities includes the following (but not limited to):
Assist in the acquisition, maintenance and application of equipment and supplies required for the administration of anaesthesia. In this role, he/she will work in a team and contribute to safe, efficient and cost-effective anaesthesia care.
Acquire detailed technical knowledge of newly commissioned anaesthetic equipment.
Transport and setup anaesthesia equipment at remote locations. Provide technical support during the conduct of anaesthesia.
Calibrate, troubleshoot and do minor repairs of faulty anaesthesia equipment to render them safe and operational.
Perform preventive maintenance and safety inspections on anaesthesia equipment.
Collaborate with Biomedical Engineers to service and maintain anaesthesia equipment in optimal condition.
Provide technical assistance to his supervisor to investigate equipment-related incidents in the department.
Maintains an inventory of equipment used by anaesthesia to track repairs, loaners and demos.
Maintains records of or has access to all preventative maintenance records. This includes maintaining data in the Anaesthetic Equipment Service Log.
Monitor the work done by service contractors to ensure they are carried out in a timely and appropriate manner.
Communicate with BME verbally or in writing, with regards to equipment updates, product recalls and status of equipment under repair or servicing by BME/vendors.
Support on operation of the hyperbaric chamber and performing all the safety checks that are required.
Diploma in Electronic/Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or relevant Industrial Technician Certificate.
Relevant working experience in a hospital setting will be advantageous.
