Job description
Mental Health Counsellor

Full‑time permanent 10‑month position at the Education Centre in Seaforth, Ontario. Reports to Mental Health Services Manager.

Responsibilities
  • Co‑facilitate the implementation of the Mental Health Strategy;
  • Provide individual counselling and support students for mental health and wellness, and addictions;
  • Provide group counselling, where appropriate, for students;
  • Provide consultation and support for administrators, teachers, support staff and parents;
  • Develop and share materials, and provide professional development for students, staff, parents and the school community;
  • Embed and promote mental health literacy, coping strategies, and social‑emotional learning in everyday school practices;
  • Respond to crises and make referrals to services in community agencies;
  • Provide outreach to community partners to inspire a collaborative approach to mental health within the system of care.
Qualifications
  • Minimum Bachelor of Social Work (B.S.W.); Master of Social Work (M.S.W.) preferred, from an accredited School of Social Work;
  • Registration with a college governing mental health professionals;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of evidence‑based practices in school mental health and experience with the implementation and evaluation of mental health programs and strategies;
  • Skilled in psychotherapeutic interventions such as cognitive behaviour therapy, dialectical behaviour therapy, and trauma informed practices;
  • Working knowledge of, and/or experience in the education system in Ontario;
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a multi‑disciplinary team;
  • Strong communication and presentation skills;
  • Proficiency with software applications such as EMHware, Google, Word and Microsoft Teams;
  • Valid driver's licence and personal vehicle;
  • Demonstrated experience in developing successful relationships and collaborations with educators, various partners in mental health, and the broader community;
  • Knowledge of community services and service pathways to access care;
  • Crisis intervention training.
Hours of Work

35 hours per week, may include evenings as needed, 10 months per year.

Employment Start

As soon as possible.

Compensation Package Details

Rate of Pay: $50.54 - $58.86 per hour per Level 7, in accordance with the Terms and Conditions of Employment for Non‑Union, Management, Administrative and Supervisory Employees.

Pension Plan: Defined pension plan through the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System.
