Job summary

AltaGas is advancing the NEBC Expansion Program, a $125MM initiative combining fractionation, liquids treatment and rail expansion. The Project Manager will coordinate resources, lead stakeholder engagement, and ensure delivery aligns with AltaGas’ Project Delivery Model (PDM).

You will shepherd the project through design, procurement and construction, coaching the team and maintaining strong operations alignment to deliver a safe, high-quality asset ready for handover to operations.

AltaGas - Project Manager

AltaGas is seeking a Project Manager for the NEBC Expansion Program. The $125MM program includes fractionation, liquids treatment and rail expansion. This project has been developed through FEED and has been sanctioned to proceed to execution. The project manager will be primarily responsible for the coordination of team resources, stakeholder engagement and leadership communication/endorsement following AltaGas’ Project Delivery Model (PDM), ensuring the project execution meets AltaGas’ Core Values.

You will
  • Deliver a safety-first mindset across all aspects of the project program (design, procurement, fabrication and construction).
  • Develop detailed project plans through a gated process including quality, design, budget, schedule and project team responsibilities.
  • Be the central point of contact for execution activities. Communicate project expectations to project team/s, consultants and others while maintaining effective rapport with operations, vendors and others.
  • Develop and over-see the construction management team responsible for all on-site activities. Lead with a focus on safe and efficient construction practices that will result in high-quality assets being transitioned into operation.
  • Establish and maintain all key contractual relationships across the project program and ensure performance is consistent with those agreements.
  • Provide proactive coaching, guidance, direction, and leadership to the project team in relation to various issues, risks, activities, general management, and project approach
  • Monitor, track and assurance of timely progress while providing status reports and summaries to key stakeholders. Proactively monitor and report on project risk and issues and provide solutions to management. Develop and track schedule timelines, including metrics, milestones and deliverables. Develop dashboards to track project cost performance to ensure successful execution of project.
  • Oversee the monitoring of project costs and schedules in order to ensure early recognition of negative trends such that corrective measures can be implemented proactively. Identify, and recommend opportunities for cost efficiencies and analyze contractor performance and trends.
  • Interface with internal and external engineering resources to ensure value-add engineering is being implemented through all phases of the projects.
  • Proactively monitor and manage design interfaces to ensure seamless integration of scopes.
  • Ensure all requirements of the Facility Integrity Program are implemented and maintained within the relevant project phases.
  • Provide direction in the development of project procurement documents for various project delivery methods and contract styles suitable for large scale energy projects. Manage and provide support and feedback on the development of fabrication and construction procurement documents, including EPF and construction plans and define and determine contractor contractual responsibilities.
  • Ensure all aspects of the contractor management process are followed to help ensure safety requirements are considered and understood when selecting a contractor for work and for compliance monitoring.
  • Manage stakeholder relationships and integrate regulatory requirements, including Environmental, Safety, Legal, Financial, Engineering, Insurance, Procurement, First Nations, Landowners, Corporate, Special Interest groups and Provincial/Federal legislation and codes, to mitigate impacts to project deliverables and execution strategies.
  • Lead the project risk management function by controlling the risk identification and risk mitigation strategies and develop contingent response plans to be used when risks are triggered during project execution. Provide support in managing changes to project scope and the use of contingency during execution.
You have
  • Registered P.Eng. on a relevant Scope of Practice in Alberta and/or B.C.
  • 10+ years of experience working as a Project Manager relating to large scale oil and/or gas projects, gas midstream preferred
  • Experience progressing the front-end phases of a large-scale project from concept identification through to detailed design, using a gated approach. Additional experience with project execution, commissioning, and handover to operations
  • Proven experience executing small, mid-size and large projects on time and on budget
  • Motivated individual with the willingness to embrace challenging and dynamic projects
  • Experience in managing multiple internal and external stakeholders and resources
  • Ability to work with multi-discipline Projects
  • Ability to work well within a team environment
  • Ability to multitask and adapt to a very dynamic work environment
  • Project Management and supervision skills
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation communication skills at all levelsin the organization
  • Familiarity with rules, regulations, best practices, and performance standards in the provinces of Alberta and British Columbia
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel
