A regional airport in Iqaluit is seeking an experienced Airport Building Maintainer. You will oversee maintenance for all airport structures, conduct inspections, and manage minor repairs. Ideal candidates have a high school diploma and trade certification. The position requires physical capability to lift materials and may need relocation to Iqaluit. Qualifications

  • Physically capable of lifting 40 lbs regularly and working independently.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license and ability to obtain a D/A AVOP.

Job description
The Organization

In partnership with Arctic Infrastructure Partners, Nunavut Airport Services Ltd. (NASL) provides airport management, operations, facility maintenance, and technical services for the Iqaluit International Airport.

This work is part of a 30-year Public-Private Partnership (P3) with the Government of Nunavut, under which Arctic Infrastructure Partners was contracted to design, build, finance, operate, and maintain the airport’s expansion and redevelopment.

While P3 projects are common internationally, this is Canada’s first and only completed airport P3. It’s also the first airport operation in the country to earn ISO 9001 Quality Management System accreditation.

Job Title: Airport Building Maintainer

Reports to: Facilities Maintenance Manager

Type: Permanent, Full Time

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Facilities Maintenance Manager, the Airport Building Maintainer plays a key role in the upkeep and inspection of all airport buildings, including tenant spaces in the Air Terminal Building (ATB) and the Combined Services Building (CSB).

You will act as the go-to expert for everything related to the physical buildings—inside and out. You’ll lead ongoing inspections, preventative maintenance, minor repairs, and coordinate building projects and contractors when needed.

Responsibilities
  • Perform regular inspections and preventative maintenance on the ATB and CSB following a set schedule (daily, weekly, monthly)
  • Use the Maximo Computerized Maintenance Management System to complete and track work orders
  • Maintain accurate records of tools, supplies, and inventory
  • Monitor and document the condition of boilers, pumps, generators, conveyors, chain drives, and other mechanical systems
  • Carry out minor repairs and coordinate contractors for specialized tasks
  • Inspect, maintain, and repair building elements including weather stripping, drywall, paint, flooring, ceilings, window coverings, and drainage systems
  • Inspect and repair architectural and HVAC systems
  • Support site drainage and seasonal work such as snow removal, with a focus on public walkways and airside access gates
  • Assist with waste management and litter control
  • Inspect and maintain environmental containment areas such as fuel tanks and drainage zones
  • Oversee and support the work of external contractors on site
  • Understand and support the airport’s Safety Management System (SMS) and Energy Plan
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
Selection Criteria
  • High school diploma (Grade 12) or equivalent
  • Journeyperson certification in a recognized trade (or equivalent experience)
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Transport Canada Security Clearance
  • Physically capable of lifting 40 lbs regularly and working independently
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license, with the ability to obtain and maintain a D/A AVOP (Airport Vehicle Operator Permit)
Working Conditions

This full-time position will be stationed in Iqaluit, Nunavut. Candidates applying from other cities or provinces must be willing to relocate to Iqaluit, Nunavut, Canada.

Condition of employment is the ability to obtain and maintain an Airport Restricted Area Identification Card (“RAIC”), D/A AVOP, and produce clear Criminal Record Checks
