Your Team

Join Flair’s Maintenance team, where safety and quality are at the core of every operation. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Maintenance Operations, the Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) Apprentice supports line and heavy maintenance activities, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to approved standards. The Apprentice assists with inspections, repairs, and troubleshooting across various aircraft systems, working both independently and alongside licensed AMEs. This role provides hands‑on experience in a fast‑paced environment and exposure to a range of technical and operational challenges.

This role is based on site at our Calgary (YYC) location.

A Day In The Life

The duties of the Aircraft Maintenance Engineer - Apprentice include:

  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance tasks on company aircraft, including engine runs, towing, and system troubleshooting.
  • Accurately complete all maintenance documentation and reports in line with company and regulatory standards.
  • Assist with aircraft interior conversions, gaining exposure to specialized maintenance processes.
  • Support mechanical rectifications and repairs at out‑base locations.
  • Identify and report unserviceable or unsafe conditions promptly to supervisors.
  • Compile and assist with Service Difficulty Report (SDR) findings to improve aircraft reliability.
  • Maintain and care for company tools, publications, and equipment, ensuring calibrated tools are within valid calibration dates.
  • Maintain housekeeping standards in all facilities, reporting any deficiencies.
  • Communicate maintenance activities clearly with colleagues and supervisors.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned, gaining exposure to diverse maintenance operations.
What You Bring To The Role

  • Education:
    • Post‑secondary diploma or equivalent from a Transport Canada‑approved Aviation program.
  • Experience:
    • Previous hands‑on experience in aircraft maintenance, either through internships, co‑op programs, or employment in aviation maintenance or related fields.
    • Exposure to line or heavy maintenance tasks, including inspections, troubleshooting, and basic repairs on aircraft systems.
    • Experience working with technical manuals, maintenance documentation, or aviation maintenance software.
    • Familiarity with safety protocols, WHMIS, and proper handling of aviation tools and equipment.
    • Experience working on commercial aircraft, such as the Boeing 737, is considered an asset.
    • Ability to work independently as well as part of a maintenance team in a fast‑paced, regulated environment.
  • Skills & Abilities:
    • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a high‑stress, deadline‑driven, ever‑changing work environment while prioritizing tasks and assignments.
    • Good mechanical skills and a genuine interest in learning how aircraft systems work.
    • Clear communicator who can explain maintenance activities and report safety issues effectively.
    • Organized and able to manage multiple tasks while staying on schedule.
    • Comfortable using computers for maintenance records and basic data entry.
    • Eager to learn, takes initiative, and asks questions when needed.
    • Physically able to handle hands‑on tasks, including lifting, bending, and working in tight spaces.
    • Works well with others and contributes positively to a team environment.
  • Requirements:
    • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Restricted Area Identity Card (RAIC).
    • Ability to obtain and maintain a Driving Airside License (D/A).
    • Ability to successfully complete a pre‑employment alcohol and drug screening test.
    • Clear criminal record check and satisfactory employment references.
    • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada without restriction.
