Job summary

Sun Life Canada IT - Platforms and Engineering is seeking an AI Engineer with 3+ years of development experience to drive GenAI innovation and build scalable cloud-based solutions that reshape insurance platforms. You will collaborate with an Enterprise Architect to pilot new GenAI technologies and deliver high-impact use cases with robust design artifacts.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or a relevant field.
• Practical experience developing solutions using Python, AWS Lambda, Java, and APIs.
• Experience with developing AI bots/agents; familiarity with chatbot concepts, RAG techniques and vector databases.
• Experience with DevOps culture, tools, and best practices; strong collaboration in an Agile environment.
• Good communication and presentation skills; ability to explain technical approaches to varied stakeholders.
• Willingness to mentor junior team members while developing your own technical expertise.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with the Enterprise Architect to design and implement solutions aligned with the platform capabilities roadmap.
• Research and pilot the latest GenAI technologies and practices.
• Develop and deploy scalable AI solutions and automation workflows for high impact business use cases.
• Create and maintain technical design artifacts describing functionality, designs, data models, interfaces, and integrations.
• Use and enhance DevOps practices and tools to increase automation and reduce cost and risk.
• Stay current with cloud technologies, AWS services, and AI/ML advancements.
• Provide post-production support for deployed applications, including troubleshooting and performance optimization.

The Canada IT - Platforms and Engineering Domain is looking for an AI Engineer with 3+ years of development experience. You will drive GenAI innovation, implement cutting edge cloud capabilities, and build scalable solutions that transform how we work. This role offers an exciting opportunity to shape the future of our insurance solutions through advanced AI technology and drive innovation at a global scale. The ideal candidate has a passion for cutting edge technologies and a proven track record of building large scale, complex software systems.

What will you do?

• Work closely with the Enterprise Architect to design and implement solutions that align with the platform capabilities roadmap
• Research and pilot the latest GenAI technologies and practices
• Develop and deploy scalable AI solutions and automation workflows targeting high impact, validated business use cases.
• Create and maintain technical design artifacts that describe application functionality, solution designs, data models, interfaces, and integrations
• Use and enhance our DevOps practices and tools to enforce software guardrails, increase automation, and help engineers build code faster, at a lower cost, and lower risk
• Stay current with industry advancements in cloud technologies, AWS services, and AI/ML
• Provide post production support for deployed applications, including troubleshooting, performance optimization and continuous improvement

What do you need to succeed?

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or a relevant field
• Good communication and presentation skills, with experience explaining technical approaches and decisions to varied stakeholder groups
• Practical experience developing solutions using technologies such as Python, AWS Lambda, Java, and APIs
• Experience with developing AI bots/agents
• Familiarity with chatbot development concepts, RAG techniques and vector databases
• Experience with DevOps culture, tools, and best practices
• Strong collaborator who contributes effectively in an agile team environment
• Good problem solving and analytical skills, with attention to detail and ability to evaluate trade offs
• Commitment to collaborative and transparent teamwork within an Agile environment
• Willingness to support and mentor junior team members while developing your own technical expertise
