Job summary

Trane Technologies in Montreal is seeking a qualified Building Automation Engineer to join our team focused on AI-driven energy solutions and HVAC controls. You will deploy, test, and optimize control algorithms for building systems, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and support customers with new HVAC sequences and performance analysis.

Qualifications

• Engineering degree or DEC/BSc in mechanical or electrical engineering.
• 5+ years in building automation and HVAC control systems.
• Experience with DDC/PLC programming in BAS/HVAC.
• Knowledge of BAS/HVAC, electrical and building operations.
• Commissioning experience and building performance analysis.
• Familiar with proprietary controls (e.g., JCI, Siemens, Honeywell).
• Experience with BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks protocols.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Reporting skills and ability to present findings.
• Python programming familiarity.

Responsibilities

• Deploy, test, measure & verify AI control algorithms for existing building control systems
• Analyze and improve the building control system to optimize energy consumption and zoning comfort
• Contribute to the development of HVAC control algorithms
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams for building deployments and performance analysis
• Work with customers to develop HVAC control sequences and advise on repairs
• Improve tools, templates, and processes related to energy consumption and performance analysis
• Read and understand HVAC plans and wiring diagrams
• Provide training on HVAC system controls to customers
• Document work processes and procedures
• Identify, analyze and resolve issues promptly
• Review performance reports and advise corrective actions
• Other tasks as assigned

What you will do:

• Deploy, test, measure & verify AI control algorithms for existing building control systems
• Analyze and improve the building control system to optimize the energy consumption and the zoning comfort
• Contribute to the development of the different HVAC algorithms
• Participate cross-functionally with teams for building deployments & performance analysis
• Work closely with customers to develop new HVAC control sequence, advise on repairs control systems
• Improve company tools, templates, and processes related to energy consumption analysis and building performance analysis
• Able to understand HVAC mechanical plans and wiring diagrams
• Provide training and follow-up training on HVAC system controls to customers
• Document work processes and procedures
• Identify, analyze and resolve issues in a timely manner
• Provide, analyze and review performance reports & advise corrective action plans & review feedback with different departments.
• Other tasks as assigned

What you will bring:

• DEC or bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical engineering or related field
• 5 plus years of experience with building automation and HVAC control system
• Experience with DDC, PLC or similar programming in BAS and HVAC control
• In-depth knowledge of building automation systems, HVAC, electrical and building operations
• Experience with commissioning building HVAC automation controls and systems
• Thorough understanding of building control theory and concepts
• Diverse experience in proprietary controls is a plus (JCI, Siemens, Honeywell, Alerton, Delta, Niagara, Schneider/TAC, etc.)
• Experience with building management system protocols like, BACnet, Modbus, Lonworks
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Strong reporting skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills, charismatic and able to present easily.
• Strong Energy Management and performance checking skills.
• Strong Trend log reading, analysis, finding actionable insights & reporting skills .
• Familiar with the programming language python

Language Requirements

• French-English bilingualism is required.
• In addition to fluency in French, successful candidates must have full professional proficiency in English in order to support and collaborate with English-speaking clients, colleagues and/or various stakeholders.
