Job Summary
Primarily responsible for sampling and/or commodity collection performed in the field, completion of all necessary paperwork, correct distribution of samples, and timely communication with office staff. Occasionally, work in the office may be required.
Responsibilities
- Perform field inspections on vessels, containers, trucks, and/or rail cars to ensure customer requirements are met. Tasks include holds/compartment cleanliness inspections, sealing, visual verification of equipment and cargo, sampling, temperature taking, etc.
- Accurately divide and log all samples taken, utilizing proper mathematical skills and logging procedures.
- Ensure correct sample preparation and distribution to onsite inspectors.
- Identify and transport samples obtained during inspections promptly.
- Perform Bag and Tag at elevators without a vessel onsite, as assigned.
- Other similar tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
- At least one year of grain and cereals grading knowledge and experience. Training will be provided if necessary, but basic understanding and experience are required.
- Draft surveying knowledge/experience is a plus.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate in English; French is a plus but not required.
- Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in all units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
- Proficiency with common office software such as Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Unrestricted use of a licensed and insured vehicle in good condition for transportation of samples and personal use, in all weather conditions, with a valid driver's license and adherence to AmSpec Safe Driving Policy.
- Availability to accept job assignments at any time, including 24/7 shifts, and willingness to work overtime as needed.
- Ability to work in terminals, grain elevators, and onboard marine vessels.
- Responsiveness to communications from the office and availability at all times.
- Attendance at monthly safety meetings is mandatory.
- This is a safety-sensitive position requiring pre-employment drug and alcohol testing, as well as post-incident testing, in compliance with AmSpec D&A Policy.
Additional Information
This position is primarily field-based; attendance at the local branch office is only required for training, health & safety meetings, operational meetings, laboratory grading, or other job-related duties. Residency within 200 km of the branch is recommended.
Work may expose employees to grain dust and high noise environments. Protective equipment and training are provided. Work outdoors in all weather conditions is expected, including environments such as farms, grain elevators, terminals, and onboard vessels, barges, ships, railcars, and trucks. Some travel may be required, including long-distance travel.
