Job summary

AltaML is offering a student software development internship in Edmonton to contribute to building and scaling its agentic platform for smarter decision-making. You will work on frontend and backend code, debugging, and performance tuning across production and staging environments.

You will collaborate with engineers, product managers, and designers to translate requirements into scalable solutions, implement feature enhancements, and help automate testing and CI/CD pipelines using agentic tools.

Qualifications

• Current student enrolled at the U of Alberta, U of Calgary, U Waterloo, or U of Toronto
• Progress toward a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field
• Proficiency in Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, or Node.js
• Solid understanding of SDLC and agile methodologies
• Familiarity with frontend frameworks or backend technologies (APIs, databases, microservices, cloud)
• Exposure to ML concepts or agentic systems is a plus
• Strong problem-solving, debugging, and analytical skills
• Ability to produce clean, maintainable code
• Collaborative mindset and quick learner
• Eligibility for a Mitacs-funded opportunity
• Successful completion of background checks

Responsibilities

• Build and scale AltaML’s agentic platform for workflow automation and smarter decision-making
• Develop and maintain high-quality, well-documented frontend and backend code
• Troubleshoot bugs, integration issues, and performance bottlenecks in production and staging environments
• Implement features and enhancements improving dashboard usability and data visibility
• Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and designers to translate technical requirements into scalable solutions
• Use AI and agentic development tools to automate testing, improve code efficiency, and streamline CI/CD pipelines
• Contribute to technical documentation, code reviews, and agile workflows
• Stay current on software trends, frameworks, and architectures and strengthen agentic infrastructure
