Job Overview

The Waterloo Region District School Board is seeking Before and After School Support (B.A.S.S.) employees. B.A.S.S. employees work with a Designated Early Childhood Educator (DECE) to support play‑based programming for students in junior kindergarten to grade 6 registered in the before and after school program.

Responsibilities
  • Follow the guidance of the DECE and support general student supervision.
  • Support positive and responsive interactions among children, parents, child‑care providers, and staff.
  • Encourage children to interact, communicate positively, and self‑regulate.
  • Support children’s exploration, play, inquiry, and development through child‑initiated and adult‑supported experiences.
  • Provide indoor and outdoor play, active play, rest, and quiet time, considering individual needs.
  • Engage parents and maintain ongoing communication about the program and their children.
  • Adhere to licensing requirements under the Child Care and Early Years Act.
  • Create an anti‑oppressive, anti‑racist, inclusive culture where all children feel seen, heard, and respected.
  • Support the health, safety, nutrition and well‑being of children.
  • Supervise and ensure children are safe, following Public Health, First Aid, and Emergency procedures.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of a high school diploma, GED or equivalent.
  • Prior experience supervising and supporting children in a positive and safe manner.
  • Standard First Aid with CPR Level C/AED (or willingness to obtain this training).
  • Completed Provincial Police Vulnerable Sector Check within 6 months (new hires).
  • Standard First Aid with CPR Level C/AED certification and up‑to‑date.
  • Accurate and complete application documentation (passport, SIN, proof of qualifications).
Conditions of Employment

Successful candidates must provide satisfactory Criminal Background Checks, including the Vulnerable Sector Check, before commencement of employment. A Licensed Child Care Staff record must be maintained.
