Job summary

Qualifications

Overview

Waterloo Region District School Board serves approximately 65,000 students across 123 schools. The Board is committed to creating learning environments that support student achievement and well‑being.

We are seeking Before and After School Support (B.A.S.S.) employees to work alongside a Designated Early Childhood Educator (DECE) to provide general supervision and play‑based programming for students in junior kindergarten through grade 6.

Responsibilities
  • Follow the guidance of the DECE and support a positive and responsive learning environment.
  • Encourage children to interact, communicate, and self‑regulate.
  • Support children’s exploration, play, and inquiry through child‑initiated and adult‑supported experiences.
  • Facilitate indoor and outdoor play, active play, rest, and quiet time while considering individual needs.
  • Engage parents and communicate ongoing program updates.
  • Follow licensing requirements under the Child Care and Early Years Act.
  • Promote an anti‑oppressive, anti‑racist, and inclusive culture where all children feel seen, heard, and respected.
  • Support the health, safety, nutrition, and overall well‑being of children.
  • Supervise children and ensure health and safety by following public health, first aid, and emergency procedures.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Prior experience supervising and supporting children in a positive and safe manner.
  • Standard First Aid with CPR Level C/AED or willingness to obtain certification.
  • Satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check (within 5 years for current employees, 6 months for new employees).
  • Completed Licensed child care staff record requirements, including Region of Waterloo Public Health health assessment application.
