Position Overview

As the Advisor of Payroll & Benefits, you'll be at the heart of making sure everything runs smoothly regarding payroll, employee benefits, HRIS compliance and auditing. You'll be the go-to person for supporting bi-weekly payroll, administering benefits, completing WorkDay audits to ensure the system is compliant. You are a self starter, ensuring proactive management in auditin all areas of payroll and benefits, identifying system gaps and working to close system gaps, quickly and effectively. In this role, you'll work closely with the Manager, Total Rewards, Payroll & HRIS, collaborating with teams across the organization to ensure accurate processing of compensation and benefits for all employees. Your Impact
Role and Responsibilities
  • First point of contact for employee questions regarding pay, tax deductions, and benefits.
  • Complete a Workday audit of current payroll practices.
  • Support preparation for year end T4 processing, completing applicable balancing and reconciliations.
  • Identify Workday efficiency opportunities for payroll, working with Alterra team member to close system gaps and ensure Workday is operating to full capacity.
  • Audit benefit and RRSP accounts to Workday and close complete corrections as necessary.
  • Create a payroll manual to document processes to process payroll.
  • Create applicable Payroll and Benefit SOP to ensure roles and accountabilities meet compliance under the Canadian Payroll Association.
  • Serve as the go-to person for benefit-related inquiries, handling employee benefits enrollments, updates, and terminations in Sun Life and Workday.
  • Support the management of the off-season benefits program.
  • Train managers and staff on timekeeping and payroll processes.
  • Stay updated on federal and provincial payroll laws, ensuring compliance while assisting with internal audits.
  • Help support implementation of CMH health and safety initiatives.
  • Help support implementation of CMH sustainability initiatives.
  • Train, participate in and provide support, as required, during emergency response situations.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Post-secondary education in Accounting & Payroll.
  • 5-8 years' experience in Workday HRIS.
  • 7+ years' experience managing payroll and benefit administration.
  • Experience with Workday implementation and system integrations, required.
  • Experience with HRIS gap identification and gap closure required.

Working Conditions

Able to lift, carry, or otherwise move and position up to 20 pounds on an occasional basis. Manual dexterity to operate a computer and other common office equipment on a constant basis. This position is required, at times, to work on evenings, weekends, and holidays based on the needs of the business. This position may require occasional travel to CMH areas, as well as some travel to industry functions on an occasional basis.
