Job summary

Auxly Cannabis Group Inc. is seeking a Plant Tissue Culture & Biosecurity Scientist in Leamington, ON (with some travel to Chatham). The role focuses on establishing an in-house tissue culture program, pathogen surveillance, and biobanking for commercial genetics.

You will operate across two sites, maintain sterile lab operations, perform RT-qPCR pathogen testing, and collaborate with cultivation, quality, IPM, and science teams to strengthen biosecurity across Auxly’s cannabis operations.

Qualifications

• Diploma or degree in plant science or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Hands-on plant tissue culture experience including apical meristem isolation and rejuvenation.
• Experience operating a plant tissue culture lab with aseptic technique and lab equipment.
• DNA/RNA extraction and PCR/RT-qPCR workflows, plant virus/viroid diagnostics preferred.
• Experience with lab information systems or batch records is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Establish and independently operate in-house plant tissue culture program including apical meristem rejuvenation, micropropagation, acclimatization, and biobanking.
• Develop cultivar-specific methods to recover declining or pathogen-affected genetics and maintain traceable cultures.
• Maintain sterile lab operations, including media prep, laminar-flow hoods, autoclaves, and equipment maintenance.
• Oversee ongoing greenhouse pathogen surveillance and RT-qPCR screening using approved assays.
• Prepare SOPs, lab records, inventory, and inter-site transfer documentation for SR&ED and compliance.
