Job summary

Alberta Health Services is seeking an Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP) for front-line Emergency Health Services Operations in the Edmonton area. You will assess scenes, transport patients, administer ALS-level care, and lead teams during patient care in transit or on arrival at facilities.

Candidates must hold ACOP registration as ACP, BCLS CPR, a valid Class 4 Alberta Operator's Licence, and pass the F.A.R.E. evaluation; readiness for full operational duties on start date is required.

Qualifications

Your Opportunity

As an Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP), you will work as a front-line healthcare provider in EHS Operations. A successful applicant may work throughout the Edmonton area. A successful applicant will work in a variety of roles such as front-line ambulance work. The successful applicant will conduct themselves respectfully with members of the public, colleagues and allied services. The ability to follow direction is considered a key strength. The successful applicant may work several shift patterns. This posting may be used to fill multiple vacancies. Description

As an Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP), you will assess emergency scenes and patients and may transport ill or injured individuals from emergency scenes and between facilities. This includes operating ambulances or other modes of transportation. You will provide patient care by administering medications, using advanced life support (ALS) airway adjuncts, and delivering electrical therapy. You may also lead the ALS team in providing clinical care during patient transport or at emergency scenes. You will support the readiness of vehicles by ensuring ambulances and other transport units, including non-emergent transport (NET) vehicles, are properly stocked, maintained, and equipped in accordance with established standards. The working environment for an ACP is demanding and includes exposure to heat, cold, rain, snow, wind, moving traffic, and industrial and agricultural equipment. You will be required to travel in all weather conditions and to remote locations (e.g., backcountry), with exposure to hazardous and graphic scenes and direct exposure to bodily fluids. This role is also physically demanding. You must be able to endure frequent lifting and carrying of up to 105 lbs while transporting and transferring patients, supplies, and equipment. You must be able to endure frequent simultaneous kneeling and trunk flexion for extended periods. Additionally, you must stand and sit for extended periods, as well as bend, twist, side-carry up to 20 lbs in each hand, and assume awkward positions.

Required Qualifications

Non-restricted registration in good standing with the Alberta College of Paramedics (ACOP) as an Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) CPR certification. Must hold a valid Class 4 Alberta Operator's Licence, or equivalent, and provide a five (5)-year driver abstract, current within six (6) months and with no more than six (6) demerits, prior to commencing work. Proof of successful completion of the Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test, verified by a certificate provided by the Lifemark organization, is required for applicants who do not already hold a clinical position within EHS (VESST, Clinical Educator, EMR, PCP, ACP, or Community Paramedic). The F.A.R.E. test must be completed no more than six (6) months prior to the date of the job offer. Preferred Qualifications

Preference is given to those with previous EHS experience in a metro, suburban, rural, and interfacility environment and in other areas of Health Care and Public Safety. Completion of additional post‑secondary programs is considered an asset and will be considered during the selection process.
