Job summary

Alberta Health Services in Sundre is seeking an Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP) to assess emergencies, transport patients between scenes and facilities, and lead ALS teams when needed. You will operate ambulances and ensure readiness of vehicles and equipment according to standards.

Travel in all weather, remote locations; physical demands include lifting up to 105 lbs. This part-time, temporary role is 0.5 FTE with rotating day/evening/night shifts and potential weekend coverage.

Qualifications

• Non-restricted registration in good standing with the Alberta College of Paramedics (ACoP) as an Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP).
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) CPR certification.
• Valid Class 4 Alberta Operator's Licence, or equivalent, with a five-year driving abstract (within six months, max six demerits).
• F.A.R.E. test completed within six months prior to offer (if not in a clinical position).
• Qualified to perform full operational duties as of start date.

Responsibilities

• Assess emergency scenes and patients and may transport ill or injured individuals between scenes and facilities.
• Provide patient care by administering medications, ALS airway adjuncts, and electrical therapy; may lead the ALS team during transport or at scenes.
• Support vehicle readiness by ensuring ambulances and NET vehicles are stocked, maintained, and equipped per standards.

Job description

As an Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP), you will assess emergency scenes and patients and may transport ill or injured individuals from emergency scenes and between facilities. This includes operating ambulances or other modes of transportation.You will provide patient care by administering medications, using advanced life support (ALS) airway adjuncts, and delivering electrical therapy. You may also lead the ALS team in providing clinical care during patient transport or at emergency scenes.You will support the readiness of vehicles by ensuring ambulances and other transport units, including non-emergent transport (NET) vehicles, are properly stocked, maintained, and equipped in accordance with established standards.The working environment for an ACP is demanding and includes exposure to heat, cold, rain, snow, wind, moving traffic, and industrial and agricultural equipment. You will be required to travel in all weather conditions and to remote locations (e.g., backcountry), with exposure to hazardous and graphic scenes and direct exposure to bodily fluids.This role is also physically demanding. You must be able to endure frequent lifting and carrying of up to 105 lbs while transporting and transferring patients, supplies, and equipment. You must be able to endure frequent simultaneous kneeling and trunk flexion for extended periods. Additionally, you must stand and sit for extended periods, as well as bend, twist, side-carry up to 20 lbs in each hand, and assume awkward positions.

Required Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference is given to those with previous EMS experience in a metro, suburban, rural, or interfacility environment and in other areas of Health Care and Public Safety. Completion of additional post-secondary programs is considered an asset. Applicants should provide any post-secondary education or training at the time of application for it to be considered during the selection process.
