Job description

At AstraZeneca, we pride ourselves on crafting a collaborative culture that champions knowledge-sharing, ambitious thinking and innovation - ultimately providing employees with the opportunity to work across teams, functions and even the globe.

Recognizing the importance of individualized flexibility, our ways of working allow employees to balance personal and work commitments while ensuring we continue to create a strong culture of collaboration and teamwork by engaging face-to-face in our offices 3 days a week. Our head office and BlueSky Hub in downtown Toronto are purposely designed with collaboration in mind, providing space where teams can come together to strategize, brainstorm and connect on key projects.

Our dedication to sustainability is also central to our culture and part of what makes AstraZeneca a great place to work. We know the health of people, the planet and our business are interconnected which is why we're taking ambitious action to tackle some of the biggest challenges of our time, from climate change to access to healthcare and disease prevention.

Reporting into the Data Science & Innovation team, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to evaluate commercial performance and enhance methodologies in metric creation, analytical reporting, and optimization processes. You will also present data-driven recommendations for investment and marketing decisions by leveraging statistical and machine learning models. This role will require both a strong understanding of the commercial business and a technical skill set to generate value from data. You will work on projects relating to multiple disease areas and brands in both a primary and specialty care context, with particular focus on progressing our customer recommendation engine offerings. Through these experiences, you will utilize modern techniques applied to a wide-range of data including digital and in-person marketing, customer profiling, sales, and prescription data.

The Advanced Analytics Manager will partner extensively with the Customer & Performance Analytics team, Data Strategy & Governance team, and our global and external partners to inform decision making and support the advancement of the analytics capabilities at AstraZeneca Canada.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead the end-to-end development and deployment of machine learning and statistical models for both business impact measurement and the generation of timely, actionable recommendations.
  • Embed model outputs into enterprise data pipelines and reporting to support ongoing decision-making.
  • Partner with stakeholders across local and global commercial teams to understand business objectives and identify strategic opportunities to optimize data processes and apply advanced analytics and data science solutions.
  • Perform data mining, wrangling and feature engineering to support model and report development.
  • Communicate results to technical and non-technical stakeholders at the appropriate level of detail.
  • Consult and provide expertise on the design, execution, and evaluation of A/B testing to assess marketing performance and enable the optimization of our go-to-market tactics.
  • Partner with business unit analytics managers to enhance segmentation and targeting processes.
Qualifications:
  • Strong analytical and conceptual thinking skills, with the ability to manipulate data and derive meaningful insights.
  • Undergraduate degree in a technical field (Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, Computer Science, etc.) or equivalent experience in a related discipline.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a commitment to continuous learning.
  • Demonstrable proficiency in SQL and Python for data processing and model development (e.g., Redshift SQL, pandas, PySpark).
  • Comfortable with designing and implementing statistical and machine learning models (e.g., advanced regression techniques, hypothesis testing, time series analysis, experimental design, causal inference, clustering). Specific experience in market mix modeling, recommendation engines (Next Best Action) and Bayesian probabilistic programming is preferred.
  • Demonstrable understanding of model and analytical pipeline deployment using CI/CD best practices. Experience with Git and cloud technologies for deployment (e.g., AWS, Azure, Snowflake, Databricks) is considered an asset.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with proven experience presenting analytical findings at varying levels of complexity.
  • Familiarity with commercial pharmaceutical industry data is considered an asset.
