Department: Education, Culture and Employment

The Department of Education, Culture and Employment (ECE) provides the residents of the Northwest Territories with access to quality programs, services and support to assist them in making informed and productive choices for themselves and their families with regard to education, training, careers, employment and labour, child development, languages, culture and heritage.

Job Information

Located in Yellowknife, the Administrative Coordinator reports to the Director, Labour Development and Standards (LDS) and provides direct office administration and coordination services for the LDS Division and Income Security Programs Division.

This position is a first point of contact for information from the divisions or from the regional officers. The Administrative Coordinator interacts in person via telephone, scan, fax, or email.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide administrative coordination services to the Directors and the divisions.
  • Provide general reception for the divisions.
  • Oversee and maintain supplies, resources and publications inventories and equipment.
Key Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of general administrative / clerical procedures, and filing systems.
  • Knowledge of computer information systems including databases, website maintenance, and Microsoft Office programs.
  • Knowledge of budget, accounting, and financial procedures.
  • Ability to acquire and apply knowledge of financial administration and software programs.
  • Planning, organization, time management skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to complete tasks/projects on time through the routine planning of own work and organization of resources.
  • Ability to mentor staff in the use of computers and specialized software.
  • Ability to manage interruptions and frequent distractions.

Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:

  • Secretarial/office or business administration diploma program and one (1) year of relevant experience.
