Qualifications

Job description

Title: Dispatcher

Job Details
  • Pay: $20/hr
  • Shift: Monday-Friday
  • Hours: 8 AM - 4 PM
  • Location: Ottawa, ON-East

We're actively hiring on behalf of one of Canada's best family-owned and operated transportation companies located in Ottawa, ON. Within this role, you will be integral to the day-to-day functions of the terminal. You will ensure timely deliveries/pickups of various freight and communicate effectively with all drivers, customers, and management team members.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Schedule and dispatch drivers to pick up and deliver loads to and from customer locations.
  • Act as the reliable point of contact for drivers to successfully balance the driver's health and safety with customer requirements.
  • Work closely with dock staff to review inbound freight manifest and prioritize trailers accordingly.
  • Assist in achieving the objectives of the pick-up and drop-off (P&D) operations, such as % on-time delivery/stops per hour.
  • Manage on-time performance of deliveries.
  • Maintain contact with drivers throughout the day.
  • Bring to the attention of the Driver Trainer and/or Driver Management team any driver problems impacting the operation (P&D or Dock).
  • Plan the P&D activities and staffing required to meet the objectives (and to advise the Driver Trainer of the requirements).
  • Ensure drivers are aware of all/any unusual delivery/pickup requirements and update the system.
  • Ensure drivers are made aware of all appointment deliveries, cash collects, and C.O.D.'s (Cash on Delivery).
  • Prioritize and assign pickups to drivers to ensure maximum efficiency.
  • Familiarize yourself with all P&D routes and any problem areas.
  • Ensure all appointment freight is brought to the attention of the AM Operations Supervisor and is loaded in a way to ensure on-time delivery.
  • Monitor and track all equipment as assigned or moved.
  • Perform driver checkout as required.
  • Assist drivers in resolving any conflicts in a professional manner.
  • Ensure all updates in the system are done in real-time for statuses of all trucks and trailers.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Dispatching in a Less than Truck Load (LTL) transport environment, city/local dispatching.
  • 6 months to 1 year of previous Transportation/Trucking Industry experience required.
  • Excellent organization skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate in a diverse environment.
  • Bilingualism is considered a strong asset.
  • Working knowledge in software applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
