Job summary

Sunnybrook in Toronto is seeking an Activity Aide to assist residents in participating in a variety of meaningful activities, under the supervision of the Activity Aide Supervisor.

The Activity Aide works collaboratively with the inter-professional team to maintain and enhance the quality of life for the residents, participating in team-based care and ensuring respectful engagement with residents and families.

Qualifications

• Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent as recognized by Ontario education authorities.
• Experience working with seniors is required.
• Dementia care experience is required.
• Keen interest in working with the elderly.
• Completion or current enrolment in post-secondary Human Services programs is an asset.
• Strong interpersonal skills are essential.
• Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally.
• Team player with good collaboration abilities.
• Computer skills are required.

Responsibilities

• Engage residents in one-to-one recreational activities.
• Escort residents to and from recreation programs on and off the unit.
• Prepare residents for meals and assist as required.
• Provide cueing and support for personal care when requested by staff.

• Escorting residents to and from recreation programs, both on the unit and off the unit
• Preparing residents for meals and assisting as required
• Providing cueing and support to residents regarding their personal care (e.g. assisting to washroom) when requested by staff
• Participate in educational activities and other duties as required

The Activity Aide works collaboratively with the inter-professional team to maintain and enhance the quality of life for the residents. The Activity Aide participates as a member of the team in a manner that reflects the Hospital’s Patient Focused Care philosophy, promoting and maintaining good public relations with residents, families, visitors and Hospital staff.
