Job summary

Extendicare St. Catharines is seeking an Activity Aide to plan and run activation programs for residents in a long-term care setting. You will set up activities, transport residents, and monitor safety and engagement during sessions.

The role requires a post-secondary qualification in recreation/leisure or gerontology, with experience in senior activities being an asset. Strong communication and organizational skills are essential, and the position aligns with a compassionate, resident-focused

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in recreation, leisure, activation studies, or related field; or SSW in Gerontology with relevant recreation courses.
  • Experience planning and delivering recreation programs for seniors with physical or cognitive impairments is an asset.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication and strong documentation skills.
  • Knowledge of geriatric population and cognitive impairments is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement, evaluate, and revise individual and group activation programs under supervision.
  • Set up and transport residents to programs and maintain activity area.
  • Monitor resident behaviour during programs and report changes to staff.
  • Maintain program and resident records according to policy.
  • Communicate participation by residents to registered staff.

Posting: Permanent Casual 1-75hrs Biweekly (9am - 5pm) & (12:30pm - 8:30pm) Location: Extendicare St. Catharines in St. Catharines Closing Date: Friday, September 4th, 2026 @ Noon

What you’ll be doing:
  • Plan, implement, evaluate, develop and revise both individual and group activation programs based on assessed needs under the guidance of the Supervisor.
  • Set up and clean activity area as necessary and transport residents to and from programs.
  • Monitor the behaviour and condition of residents during programs and report any significant changes to the Supervisor and nursing staff as appropriate.
  • Maintain program and resident records according to department policy.
  • Communicate participation by residents to registered staff.
What you bring:
  • Must have a Post‑secondary diploma or degree from an accredited community college or university in recreation, leisure or activation studies or therapeutic recreation, OR a degree or diploma in Social Service Worker in Gerontology ; Music Therapy; or Gerontology that includes at least 3 courses in recreation and leisure or therapeutic recreation.
  • Experience providing recreation program planning and implementation with seniors with physical and cognitive impairment is considered an asset.
  • An energetic, compassionate person who enjoys working with the elderly.
  • Ability to problem solve, and pivot to meet the needs of the residents and the home.
  • Demonstration of planning and creative abilities.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills, as well as excellent documentation skills.
  • Knowledge and/or experience in working with the geriatric population especially those with cognitive impairments.
  • Knowledge in technology such as Activity Pro program and PCC Time Type

Part time Compensation Details $27.51 - $29.12
