Job summary

American Iron & Metal is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to partner with operations and leadership. You will oversee day-to-day accounting, inventory valuation, and the development of the accounting team to ensure accurate financial information.

The role requires 5+ years in progressive accounting, strong IFRS/NCECF knowledge, and advanced Excel with ERP system experience. You will drive close processes, provide insights to executives, and collaborate across Finance and Operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA/CMA asset.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including supervision.
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS and/or NCECF, financial reporting standards, and internal controls.
  • Proven experience managing month-end close processes and financial reporting cycles.
  • Manufacturing industry experience is an asset.
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP systems (e.g., Dynamics 365, Maximo, Dayforce).
  • Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes with accuracy and timeliness.
  • Oversee bank reconciliations, GL reconciliations, petty cash, and inventory reconciliations.
  • Prepare and analyze financial reports and KPIs to identify trends and risks.
  • Provide variance explanations and financial insights to leadership.
  • Coach and develop accounting team while managing priorities.
  • Ensure internal controls and governance requirements are met.
  • Coordinate external audits and serve as primary finance contact.
  • Identify process improvements and automate where possible.

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented, and results-drivenAccounting Manager to serve as a true business partner. In this role, you will oversee day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting activities, the integrity of inventory accounting and valuation, and the development and performance of the accounting team.

This position is critical to ensuring the accuracy and reliability of financial information, strengthening internal controls, and providing management with meaningful financial insights to support strategic decision-making. The successful candidate will work closely with Finance, Operations, and cross-functional stakeholders to optimize financial processes and improve operational efficiency.

What you’re responsible for:
  • Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with applicable accounting standards (NCECF).
  • Oversee and review bank reconciliations, general ledger reconciliations, petty cash, and inventory reconciliations, ensuring discrepancies are analyzed, resolved, and properly documented. Provide guidance on complex accounting issues.
  • Prepare, review, and analyze financial reports and key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Deliver financial analysis and variance explanations to executive leadership and operational teams to support informed decision-making.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop the accounting team while ensuring performance expectations are met and priorities are effectively managed.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and corporate governance requirements.
  • Coordinate external audit activities and serve as the primary finance contact for external auditors.
  • Identify and implement process improvements, automation initiatives, and system enhancements to increase efficiency and strengthen financial controls.
