The Role

A key contributor managing accounting operations for a specific division, responsible for month-end close processes, financial reporting and presentation preparation, automation initiatives, and leadership of a direct report.

Operations Accounting
  • Lead the month‑end close process within a tight 3‑4 day timeline
  • Post and review 80+ standard journal entries per month
  • Prepare and validate complex ad‑hoc entries as needed
  • Document and standardize journal entry processes
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Oversee and take ownership of all balance sheet account reconciliations
  • Identify, investigate, and resolve complex reconciliation issues
  • Document and standardize reconciliation procedures
  • Manage AP batch processing and documentation workflows
  • Perform regular online review of sundry invoices and transactions to ensure accuracy
Management Reporting & Presentations
  • Prepare and distribute monthly financial statements for division stakeholders
  • Create KPI reports and analysis for operational teams
  • Develop and maintain standardized reporting templates
  • Develop comprehensive quarterly financial presentation materials using PowerPoint
  • Prepare variance analysis and commentary for executive reviews
Automation Support
  • Support implementation and management of automation tools like Alteryx for journal entries and reconciliations
  • Review and optimize bot programs that replicate manual accounting processes
  • Implement automation tools for reconciliation processes
  • Document automated workflows and maintain process controls
Leadership
  • Train, supervise, and provide mentorship to intermediate accountant

By Month 1
  • Actively absorb information through strategic inquiry and leverage previous experience
  • Learn company tools and systems, as well as key stakeholders and information sources
  • Document existing processes and identify areas for questions and clarification
By Month 3
  • Become self‑sufficient and self‑managing with minimal supervision
  • Take ownership of month‑end close process with guidance
  • Competently assist in areas of weakness and tackle operational challenges
  • Show capacity and desire to take on additional responsibilities
By Month 6
  • Have a solid handle on all core responsibilities with minimal oversight
  • Be actively involved in process improvement projects
  • Competently manage all original role responsibilities while contributing to automation initiatives
  • Proactively seek opportunities to integrate into the business
By Month 12
  • Require minimal supervision and fully manage direct report independently
  • Be fully integrated into the team and working on multiple efficiency projects
  • Challenge existing processes with critical thinking and suggest improvements
  • Position for potential growth opportunities as the company continues to evolve
The Skill Set
  • CPA designation (or actively pursuing) with at least 6‑7 years of accounting experience
  • French language skills preferred but not required
  • Strong Excel skills including advanced functions and pivot tables
  • Experience with ERP systems and financial reporting tools
  • Thrives in fast‑paced environments with persistent determination and positive energy
