Job summary

Grewal Guyatt LLP in Richmond Hill is seeking an Accounting Associate to support compilation engagements and complex tax filings. You will manage client files from setup through completion, ensuring documentation is complete, accurate and compliant with firm methodologies.

Qualifications

  • Education background in accounting with 3–5 years of relevant work experience.
  • Currently pursuing or actively working toward CPA designation.
  • Strong technical skills in accounting, auditing, asset depreciation, tax and bookkeeping.
  • Experience preparing T1, T2, T3 and other tax forms is mandatory.
  • Solid background in Canadian Income Tax and proficiency with CaseWare/CCH is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare compilation engagements and related tax filings for corporate, personal, trust and partnership returns plus T4/T4A, NR4, T5, T5001, GST/HST where applicable.
  • Prepare review engagements for larger group engagements, coordinating planning, execution, communication and completion.
  • Ensure engagements are completed on time and within budget.
  • Respond promptly to client inquiries and information requests from the CRA and other authorities.
  • Train, mentor and develop Associates and co-op students with guidance and feedback.
  • Meet individual billable hour targets while contributing to profitability and firm success.
  • Manage multiple concurrent assignments efficiently.

Role Overview

The Accounting Associate will support compilation engagements and complex tax filings. This role will be responsible for managing client files from setup through completion, ensuring documentation is complete, accurate and compliant with firm methodologies. You may occasionally be required to assist with review engagements and relevant tax filings as part of a larger group you are responsible for.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Prepare compilation engagements and related tax filings, including corporate, personal, trust, and partnership income tax returns, as well as T4, T4A, NR4, T5, T5001 Tax Shelter Slips, and GST/HST returns.
  • Prepare review engagements, particularly those that form part of larger corporate group engagements, by coordinating planning, execution, communication, and completion across multiple related entities while ensuring quality, consistency, and adherence to professional standards.
  • Ensure engagements are completed on time and within budget.
  • Respond promptly to client inquiries and information requests from the Canada Revenue Agency and other tax authorities.
  • Train, mentor, and develop Associates and Co-op students by providing technical guidance,coachingand constructive feedback.
  • Meet individual billable hour targets while contributing to the overall profitability, efficiency, and success of the firm.
  • Manage multiple concurrent assignments efficiently.
Requirements
  • Education background in accounting and/or a related field, with 3-5 years of relevant work experience.
  • Currently pursuing or actively working toward Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation.
  • Strong technical skills in accounting, auditing, asset depreciation, tax, and bookkeeping.
  • Experience preparing T1, T2, T3, and other tax forms is mandatory.
  • Solid technical background in Canadian Income Tax.
  • Experience with CaseWare and CCH (Tax Prep) considered an asset.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to take initiative and multi-task in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.
