Overview

What you’ll do : Under the guidance and leadership of the Senior Accountant, this role is responsible for performing general accounting functions, including the analysis and preparation of financial reports and statements. Key responsibilities include the preparation of journal entries / ledgers, fixed asset and inventory accounting, budgeting, cost accounting, reconciliation, and financial statement consolidation. The position also supports general accounting practices by providing an independent, objective assessment of governance, risk management processes, and the internal control structure.

The ideal candidate will evaluate and assess the co-operative's controls, processes, and procedures while working across multiple areas of accounting based on evolving business needs. In addition, the candidate will develop an understanding of policies and procedures, offering valuable input into accounting processes.

Responsibilities
  • Understand and adhere to Westview Co-op’s Health and Safety Program while promoting a culture of safety.
  • Provide world-class service to Members and Guests, aligning with our brand expectations and the "You\'re at Home Here" motto.
  • Maintain general ledger records, including journal entries, posting bank reconciliations, and managing related bank fund transfer transactions.
  • Conduct monthly reconciliations.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly and quarterly financial management reports.
  • Provide support for budgeting and forecasting analysis.
  • Assist all business units with financial matters.
  • Calculate, file, and process all required corporate remittances.
  • Undertake other projects and assignments as required.
  • This position requires a Class 5 Driver’s License for travel across our trading area.
Qualifications
  • A relevant University Degree, preferably in Business or Accounting.
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation or enrollment in the CPA program.
  • 1-5 years of relevant accounting experience.
  • Ability to adapt to shifting priorities and demands.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills with a commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet precise deadlines.
  • Results-oriented, always striving for excellence.

  • Experience with full-cycle accounting, including direct participation in month-end and year-end activities, financial analysis and reporting, and budgeting (experience in retail / petroleum accounting is a benefit).
  • Familiarity with JD Edwards accounting systems is an asset.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, with intermediate skills in other Microsoft Office programs.

This is a Full-time position for 40 hours per week.
