Job summary

An educational institution in Toronto is seeking an experienced Accountant to assist in the preparation of financial reports. Job Summary: The Accountant under the direction of the Controller will assist in the timely and accurate preparation of the monthly financial reporting package. This role will also record business transactions, process accruals and adjustments, and reconcile accounts. The Accountant must possess a degree or diploma in business, finance, accounting, or a related field and can analyse and present numerical data in tables, spreadsheets, and forms.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with the daily functions of the Finance team by preparing general ledger journal entries, generating financial reports, and ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Ensure all month‑end financial duties and resulting financial reporting are completed in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Record all business transactions, process accruals and adjustments, and reconcile accounts.
  • Maintain year‑end working papers and spreadsheets and assist with preparation for any internal or external audits or independent reviews being conducted.
  • Collect, interpret, and report on financial data.
  • Correct errors by posting adjusting journal entries.
  • Prepare bank reconciliations.
  • Perform expense analysis of major accounts.
  • Approve EFT payments for timely payment of invoices.
  • Maintain an accurate and complete trail of supporting documentation for all activities.
  • Contribute to team effort by taking on ad‑hoc projects as assigned.
