Job description
Company Overview

Apollo Scooters is a North American manufacturer and distributor of electric scooters with a mission to create a world for people, not cars. We do this by making getting places cheaper, more environmentally friendly, and enjoyable. We are a small, dynamic team with big ambitions that has become a market leader within just a few years. We are absolutely obsessed with our products and customers, and we’re only getting started. If you are looking for a company at the cutting edge of innovation, in an industry on the verge of a breakout, with a work‑hard/play‑hard environment and hands‑on learning, you’ve found the right place.

Job Overview

We are looking for a Senior Accountant with at least 5 years of experience to take ownership of our accounting operations and compliance requirements across multiple entities. This role will be the primary point of contact for all government and compliance matters, including the CRA, Revenue Quebec, and U.S.-based revenue departments.

You will oversee the integrity of our financial records, ensure timely compliance filings, and support decision‑making by delivering accurate, insightful reporting. This role reports directly to our CFO, who is based overseas, so strong communication skills and the ability to work independently are essential.

If you’re a detail‑oriented, proactive accounting professional with strong technical skills and the ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, entrepreneurial environment, this is the role for you.

Responsibilities
  • Government & Compliance
    • Act as the primary liaison for CRA, Revenue Quebec, IRS, and U.S. state revenue departments
    • Ensure timely and accurate filing of federal, provincial, and state tax returns (sales tax, income tax, GST/QST)
    • Oversee the preparation and submission of compliance documentation for banking and regulatory purposes
  • Month‑End & Year‑End
    • Oversee month‑end close for multiple entities (Canada and U.S.) prepared by the bookkeeper
    • Review bank and credit card reconciliations, AR/AP balances, revenue recognition, COGS cut‑off, and intercompany transactions
    • Coordinate year‑end review preparation and correspondence with external auditors
    • Serve as the main point of contact for auditors during year‑end review engagements and audits
  • Financial Reporting & Analysis
    • Maintain and update annual forecast models for budgeting and planning
    • Prepare monthly budget‑to‑actual variance analyses with insights on company and departmental performance
    • Maintain pricing and costing documents for products quarterly
  • Cash Flow & Payment Management
    • Review and update cash flow forecasts with the executive team
    • Maintain payment tracking for suppliers, ensuring alignment between QuickBooks and supplier statements
  • Operational Accounting Support
    • Ensure proper billing, fulfillment, and reporting for wholesale orders
    • Reconcile open purchase orders with units shipped
    • Support the implementation of new financial processes as business needs evolve
Requirements
  • CPA designation (or in the final stages of completion)
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian and U.S. tax compliance requirements
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel
  • Experience managing the month‑end/year‑end close for multiple entities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams across multiple locations and time zones, as well as external stakeholders such as auditors, tax authorities, and suppliers.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently
  • Experience in e‑commerce or inventory‑based businesses is an asset
  • Public accounting experience is considered an asset
Benefits & Perks
  • Personal electric scooter for the summer
  • STM Metro Pass for the winter season
  • Montreal location – work from home up to 2 days per week
