Job summary

Family Day Care Services in Caledon is hiring an Assistant Teacher to support Early Learning & Development programs for children aged 0–12 years. This part-time role is 25 hours per week with split shifts, from Sept 16, 2026 to Aug 31, 2027, in a nonprofit setting.

You will assist the E.C.E. Teacher, implement High/Scope, and help design inclusive plans while monitoring progress and safety in line with CCEYA and provincial standards. Teamwork and clear communication are essential.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with young children in care or education settings.
  • Knowledge of best practices in early learning and childcare.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organization, assessment, teamwork and confidentiality.
  • Awareness of diversity and social inclusion.
  • Mandatory health and safety checks: TB test, police check, and first aid/CPR.

Responsibilities

  • Support implementation of High/Scope educational approach in curriculum.
  • Assist in creating a program plan reflecting children’s interests and diverse needs.
  • Participate in planning, evaluation, and progress observations.
  • Assist in developing individual program plans for children with special needs.
  • Maintain respectful communication with families, staff, and volunteers.
  • Ensure activity areas are safe and well-equipped; follow OH&S standards.

Job Purpose:

The Assistant Teacher works in partnership with the E.C.E. Teacher(s) toprovide and support an Early Learning and Development Program for children (0-12 years), in a group setting in keeping with theChild Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA),municipal guidelines and the policies and procedures of Family Day.

Job Duties:
  • Support the implementation of the High/Scope® educational approach to Curriculum and The Hanen Learning Language and Loving It™ Program
  • Assist E.C.E. in creating a program plan that reflects children’s interest and responds to diverse individual and cultural needs
  • Participate in short and long term planning and evaluation activities
  • Assist the E.C.E in the observation and assessment ofchildren’s progress andbehavior to ensure program meets individual and group needs
  • Assist the E.C.E in providing Individual program plans for children with specialneeds
  • Demonstrate empathy, sensitivity and support to the family unit
  • Practice respectful communication with children, parents, colleagues, teachers,managers, students and volunteers
  • Support, comfort and encourage children who are experiencing difficulties and help them to understand and handle their feelings
  • Ensure that the activity areas are appropriately equipped and maintained
  • Works within the Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety standards
  • Guide and assist children in the development of independent eating, dressing and toileting habits
  • Perform other duties as required
Education and ExperienceRequired
  • Previous experience with children in a child care centre or educational setting
  • Knowledge of best practices in the early learning and childcare sector
  • Well-developed skills in areas such as leadership, communication, organization, assessment, teamwork, confidentiality, commitment and accountability, initiative and creativity
  • Awarenessofdiversityand social inclusion
  • Medicalrequired – including TB (two stages) 6 months current to hiring date
  • Police Vulnerable Sector Check 6 months current to hiring date
  • Standard First Aid and CPR, level C
  • Able to work Monday to Friday between 7 am-6 pm
