Status: TEMPORARY FULL TIME
Department: EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT
Location: MAROTTA FAMILY HOSPITAL, ST. CATHARINES
Hours of Work: 75 HOURS PER PAY PERIOD; 12 HOUR ROTATING SHIFTS
Union: ONTARIO NURSES’ ASSOCIATION
Wage Range: $68.423 TO $78.146 PER HOUR

Position Objective

The Nurse Practitioner is responsible for ongoing assessment, planning, management and treatment of patients in collaboration with the site Physicians. The Nurse Practitioner will report directly to the Director of Emergency Services. The Nurse Practitioner will provide leadership and promote excellence in patient‑centred care through expert practice, education, consultation and research. The successful candidate will provide care with an emphasis on wellness, prevention and disease management through direct patient care, health promotion and education, outreach, advocacy and community development as required. The successful candidate’s home site will be the St. Catharines Site with time required at other sites when necessary. The candidate will have a home site but must be willing to work at two or more sites.

Qualifications
  • Current registration in good standing as a Registered Nurse Extended Class Primary Health Care or Adult Certification with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
  • Successful completion of a Nurse Practitioner program
  • Must have successfully completed CNO approved controlled substances education
  • Must have professional Liability Protection (RNAO or equivalent)
  • Minimum of 5 Years clinical experience as a Registered Nurse or NP in acute care treating adults, (RN or RN-EC) experience
  • Demonstrated clinical leadership skills to organize and coordinate the care of patients in collaboration with their care givers
  • Ability to promote professional education and advanced knowledge through research and the evaluation / quality improvement activities related to the care of patients throughout the continuum
  • Proven success in providing inspirational leadership in a team environment and ability to encourage innovation and creativity amongst team members
  • Is self‑directed in clinical practice as with patient assessment, diagnosis and therapeutic treatment of medicine/complex care patients
  • Consistently applies the NHS values and professional practice standards
  • Demonstrates commitment to patient/client centred care
  • Displays strong analytical and conceptual skills
  • Demonstrates commitment to the mission, vision and values of the Niagara Health System
  • Applies knowledge, skills, judgment and competencies required for safe practice as outlined by the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Integrates reflection, critical thinking, education and relevant practical experience in problem solving
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours to reflect patient population needs
  • Consistent and regular attendance required
  • Proficiency in both official languages (English and French) will be considered an asset
