WAGE RANGE: $28.973 TO $30.364 PER HOUR

POSITION OBJECTIVE

The Personal Support Worker functions as a nursing team member assisting the patients in the Hospital to meet their basic physical, social, and emotional needs, along with any other duties that may be required within the scope of the classification. Shift rotations are subject to change.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Secondary School Diploma or equivalent
• Successful completion of the Personal Support Worker Program or equivalent education as a RN student completion of year 2 or greater, RPN student completion of term 2 or greater
• Recent related clinical experience in a hemodialysis environment
• Current knowledge of Infection Control Practices and the use of personal safety apparel
• Basic knowledge of medical terminology sufficient to read and understand patient records and identify the proper equipment to be utilized
• Current knowledge of the proper procedures for threading, priming, disinfecting and dialysis machines
• Safe transfer and lifting knowledge and skills for safe patient portering and lifting an asset
• Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with patients, families and other members of the healthcare team
• Evidence of effective customer service, organizational, interpersonal, communication, judgment and decision-making skills
• Flexible, self-directed and able to work effectively with minimal supervision
• Must be available for all shifts
• Consistent and regular attendance required
• Proficiency in both official languages (English and French) will be considered an asset
