Job summary

RMC Group of Companies is seeking a knowledgeable Apprentice Millwright to support preventive maintenance on mechanical systems at our Edmonton West (with potential travel to East) plant. You will work under Journeyman Millwrights on conveyors, mixers, pumps, gearboxes, and hydraulic/pneumatic systems.

The role requires a second-year apprenticeship, strong safety awareness, and the ability to read blueprints and operate hand and power tools.

Qualifications

  • Registered as an Apprentice Millwright, preferably as a second-year apprentice.
  • Valid Alberta driver's licence and clean drivers abstract.
  • Physical ability to perform duties including lifting, climbing, working in confined spaces, and standing for extended periods.
  • Previous experience in concrete, aggregate, construction materials, or heavy industrial environment is preferred.
  • Familiarity with hydraulic and pneumatic systems is an asset.
  • Experience with rigging, hoisting, and lifting equipment is ideal.
  • Basic welding or fabrication skills are considered an asset.

  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance tasks including lubrication, inspections, and component replacements.
  • Diagnose mechanical faults and troubleshoot equipment to minimize downtime.
  • Read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and manuals to support repair work.
  • Fabricate, align, and fit mechanical components such as shafts, couplings, bearings, and seals.
  • Operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, rigging equipment, and precision measuring instruments safely.

Position Overview

We are looking for a knowledgeable and dependable Apprentice Millwright who will be responsible for performing required preventative maintenance on mechanical systems and components while ensuring compliance of all safety policies and operating practices.

Responsibilities
  • Assist Journeyman Millwrights in the installation, maintenance, repair, and overhaul of concrete production machinery and equipment including conveyors, mixers, pumps, gearboxes, hydraulic systems, and pneumatic systems.
  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance tasks as directed, including lubrication, inspections, and component replacements.
  • Diagnose mechanical faults and assist in troubleshooting equipment failures to minimize production downtime.
  • Read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and equipment manuals to support repair and installation work.
  • Fabricate, align, and fit mechanical components including shafts, couplings, bearings, and seals.
  • Operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, rigging equipment, and precision measuring instruments safely and correctly.
  • Comply with all Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations, company safety policies, and site-specific protocols at all times.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work environment.
  • Perform general plant labour as required.
  • Champion RMC safety culture by wearing PPE, attending safety meetings, identifying and reporting hazards, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Hours of Work
  • Hours of work are generally 8-10 hours daily, Monday through Friday, with a Saturday rotation.
  • Shifts typically start at 9 AM. Although, start/end times are highly dependent on daily production schedules.
  • Overtime may be required to support operations, especially during the busy construction season. This includes evenings, weekends, and occasional nightshifts.

This role is primarily based plant-based out of the Edmonton West Plant, however, travel to the Edmonton East Plant may be required.

The successful candidate must be comfortable working in an industrial environment that may include exposure to dust, noise, varying temperatures, and heights. Shift work, weekend work, and overtime may be required based on operational and maintenance demands.

Physical Demands

The position is physical in nature and requires bending, crawling, crouching, and standing for long periods of time. Materials are heavy and cumbersome. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs on a regular basis.

Applicants will be required to undergo a pre-employment drug, alcohol, and fit for work testing as a condition of employment.
